  • Starting Induction tomorrow!

Hi! My name is Trista. I am 35 years old. I have a wonderful husband and 5 great kids, ages 15, 10, 8, 6, and 1 month. My one month old is adopted, so I can't blame her for these extra 30 pounds! I have been on the Atkins program before, with great success. Unfortunately, after a depression following 2 stillborn sons, I gained it all back. I did the plan on my own, never joining any forums or anything. I am really dreading getting back on Atkins, because I would rather live on pasta and bread...but my waistline tells a different story! I have tried every diet out there...Weight Watchers, low fat, low calorie, cabbage soup, slim fast...but the only time I had success was following the Atkins plan. So, I am rolling up my sleeves, and going at this plan again!I think I am going to need this support system this time around. My husband, his intentions are loving, but isn't the "rock" that I need in a moment of weakness. If I feel frustrated about dieting and want something I shouldn't have, will just say that I should have it and not deprive myself. He would love me still at 200 pounds - but I sure wouldn't! Also, my husband has high cholesterol and high blood pressure, so when I'm focusing on eating more meats, cheeses, and eggs, I need to be planning his meals differently. That is going to be a challenge for me. So...it is great to be able to be a part of this forum! I hope to get to know you all and hopefully we can help eachother (although I think that I will be on the receiving end of that for awhile!)

Thanks for all of your help and support in advance!

    Welcome, Trista!

    >>my husband has high cholesterol and high blood pressure, so when I'm focusing on eating more meats, cheeses, and eggs, I need to be planning his meals differently.>>

If you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002), you'll see that Atkins is a great way of eating for lowering blood pressure and cholesterol.

Also ... Atkins is more about the vegetables than it is "meats, cheeses, and eggs".

He can do it with you if that's what he wants.

He has to want to do this, too.

He should read the book, too!

              Welcome --

It sounds like you need to read the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book so you know how to follow the plan and make it work for you. If you don't have a copy of the book it's worth a few dollars to purchase (mine was under $5.00 for a "used" copy including shipping – check www.half.com or www.amazon.com.

Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water daily, exercise and take a non-iron vitamin daily. There are so any different forums here there is something for just about everyone.

Since you've done Atkins before you may enjoy the STAC (second time around club), they have a daily sign in that people enjoy Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet. Also many people start a journal to keep track of themselves. It’s also a great place to meet new people http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/journal-chats/.

My cholesterol, blood pressure and A1C reading for diabetes have all gone from bad to fantastic in the time I've been following Atkins. If you make meals for your husband, your kids AND yourself that are Atkins friendly you'll all be healthier! My husband isn't following Atkins but he does eat Atkins meals and doesn't even know it -- and that's not easy because he's very picky!

Check Linda's recipe site - it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html. If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck.
