  • Day one of Atkins Diet (The Return - you know what I mean!!)

Hi my name is Paul and this is the start of my new - determined to stick to it - Atkins diet.
I have read through some of the postings and it has helped enormously, it is making me all the more determined to do it properly this time.
I did it last time for six weeks two years ago but fell back into bad habits and also listened to all the bad press associated with the diet. It is however the only diet that I have ever stuck to for so long. This time around I am determined to get to the maintenance stage. There are websites that give suggestions for diets etc and I have a general knowledge of the basics but would very much welcome any tips or suggestions to give the diet a bit more variety and any suggestions on how to get over the sweet cravings.
I am also interested in the variety of beverages, ie any flavoured waters allowed and can you trust the labelling of zero carbs advertised on certain brands.
I will continue to leave threads on my progress and hopefully stay off the scales.

    Many thanks, Paul

    Welcome back!

    >>ould very much welcome any tips or suggestions to give the diet a bit more variety and any suggestions on how to get over the sweet cravings.>>

You get over the cravings by not giving in!

    Variety:

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home

Atkins Food and Recipes - Atkins Diet

And low carb cookbooks, especially ones by Atkins and Dana Carpender!

    >> am also interested in the variety of beverages, ie any flavoured waters allowed>>

Flavored waters don't count as water. Only plain water counts as water.

    >>can you trust the labelling of zero carbs advertised on certain brands>>

What certain brands did you have in mind?

    Generally, 0 carbs aren't really 0.

Since you spelled "flavoured" with a "u", you're not in the US ... where are you?

Hi Thanks for the reply, I am in Bolton in the north west of England.
The flavoured water I drink is called perfectly clear and advertises as carb and sugar free but am a bit dubious of the claim. Is there any brand you can recommend or do I need to forget the flavoured water?
      Many Thanks. Paul

        Is the flavoured water sweetened?

If so, then you should avoid it.

Is there a reason you can't drink tap water?

Since you're in the UK, remember that fiber isn't considered a carbohydrate, so if you're using the carb count on a package, it's already "net" carbs.

If you haven't already bought a copy it would be a good thing to get the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution so you'll understand how the plan works and how to make it work the best for you.

Plan your meals for a fews days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?) (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)

Pure water (nothing added) is best and is what is recommended in the book to drink, what type of exercise are you planning to do? Take a multivitamin without iron also.

Good luck to you -- hope you get to maintenance and maintain for a lifetime.
          Carole

Thanks Paul.Well wher shall I start firstly believe you can do it and always think positive no matter what others say about the diet because you made the choice and will stick to it.
If you do slip up get back on track because the longer you take the weight will surely pile back on.
Keep an old slimmer pic I put mine under my pillow and used to look at it every night and would promise myself I'll get there (my motivation).
I would treat myself when I met mini goals e.g I would buy new shoes etc to make it interesting and to keep me spurred on.
I gave it my best mostly its down to willpower be strong!
I hope this helped in some way sorry would stay up writing more but its 12.47 here and you should be sleeping too as your from the UK.Im really tired recovering from a chest infection as I have asthma so off to bed.Goodnight.
