  • Hi

My name is Marcha. I am 17 years old. I currently weigh 249 pounds. I just started induction today. I hope to make it to my goal weight of 180 pounds. I would like to have this done by January, 4 2011. This would give exactly one year. I hope I can stick with it. My family and I tried the atkins diet 3 years ago, but then I got very ill so I gained all of the 40 pounds back plus some. I am now at the point where it is getting difficult to even walk up the stairs without huffing and puffing. Wish me luck as I start my long journey.

    Re: Hi

Did you talk to your doctor about this? It is not the best for kids/teens to do diets and it is good to have some professional help when or if teens to diet. So I hope you are getting that support where you are.

Yes, I did talk to my doctor about this. He isn't a huge fan of low carb, but as long as I lose weight he will be happy. In fact he isn't letting me go to space camp this summer if I don't lose weight. My parents are also doing low carb, so I guess you could say that I have support. It is only at nights though, because durng the day I am doing online school at home. It sure is hard to keep focused, when I am in a house full of yummy, unhealthy food. (including my little sister's chocolate cakes and powder donuts.

          Hi there! Welcome!!
I know what you mean about the cakes and donuts, I live with 2 other people and see this kinda stuff every single day. At first, when you still have cravings, it is very hard to stick to plan but I know you can do it (if I can do it, anyone can! ), just think about the consequences before you go to grab for it. For me, after about a week, my cravings are gone. I can watch my husband eat a king size snickers with out even thinking of wanting a bite!! It gets easier!!
I wish you the best of luck with your weight loss and with all of the other goals that you may have!!

              Re: Hi

Yeah, this is my third day on the diet and I have already lost 13 pounds. If I keep up like this, I will be down 40 more pounds in no time, hopefully....

                Re: Hi

Welcome Marcia -- I'm glad you joined the water challenge and planning to drink over the minimum water pledge each day.

Neither my husband & my mother (who lives with us) are on Atkins, I sit between them at dinner and pass their food back and forth to them - at first it was a little hard not to be eating the starchy foods they were eating but it doesn't bother me much if ever now. We usually have the same meat but I make recipes from Linda's site -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

If you plan out meals for a couple days in advance you'll do much better because you'll know what you'll be eating for each meal.

What type of "low carb" plan are your parents following? Hopefully they will be helpful to you.

                Good luck.
                Carole
