  • Just joined, starting Saturday!

Hello! I wanted to introduce myself to my new family!

My name is Jennifer, I'm 28 years old and at a very frustrating point in my life. I've been working out, and counting calories every day, only to find that I'm STILL gaining weight.
When I got married almost 9 years ago, I was 200 lbs, 2 years after I got pregnant, and gained 50 lbs, and still have not lost that extra weight. I feel terrible, I look terrible and the weight will not budge, so I'm pretty miserable. My husband has wanted another baby for years now, but there's NO way I want to add even more weight that I won't be able to lose!

So Friday, the hubby and I are going shopping so I can start the induction phase. I'll be here constantly, studying everything so it's a little less foreign to me.

I've got The Atkins Essentials book on hand, but if anyone knows a link for a simplified shopping list to make it a little less overwhelming for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Looking forward to what's next,
    Jennifer

Also read the book we go by here -- Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002)... we call it DANDR.

    The Atkins Essentials
Atkins Essentials has some good stuff in it, but DANDR is more complete.

if anyone knows a link for a simplified shopping list
It's best to make your own shopping list starting from the Acceptable Foods List. And you can print the Acceptable Foods List and take it with you.

oh I forgot to ask my most important question! (duh!)

I'm lactose intolerant, so straight milk or cheese is killer for me. I see that cheese is recommended, and added to most recipes.

Is my inability to eat dairy products going to be a problem?

Cheese is allowed, but I wouldn't say it's necessarily "recommended". I have days when I eat no cheese.

It shouldn't be. One can definitely follow Atkins without eating cheese.

ok so I've been searching through genaw.com/lowcarb/index.html, and I'm noticing that her meals are mostly 6 servings.

Would it be fine to just make a breakfast lunch and dinner, and have that as my meals every day? While it might be boring, I'd like to simplify it as much as I can for myself. Cooking is so not my strong point.

Many of her dishes also freezes well. I like to make her white castle pie and freeze the portion sizes down for easy meals another day.

That would probably work. Linda like her cheeses so watch out for the daily limit on those. And always eat slowly and let your body be your guide. In the beginning you may find that you are more hungry so then you may have to eat a bit more (so maybe a snack added) But after a while you may find that you are less hungry and will not finish the portion - then don't.
And drink plenty of clean water - all day long.

Yeah I have to limit the cheese on these recipes, my body just cant handle it.
Hopefully I'll learn enough to be able to adapt quickly!

                          Re: Just joined, starting Saturday!

when you make one of Linda's recipes and leave the cheese out make sure you take that into account with your net carb amounts. Are you using Fitday or some other free program to track your food intake? You should be getting 20 net carbs daily - most of them coming from vegetables.

You can get a copy of DANDR on www.half.com or www.amazon.com for little of nothing - I bought another one about 2 months ago, a hardcopy edition on half.com - it was listed as "used" but when I got it the book had never been opened -- and I paid less than $5.00 including shipping. Until you can get a copy of the book we use look here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...tion-faqs.html - you should get answers to many of your questions there. Under vegetables you should be eating 2 cups from the 1st part of the list and 1 cup from the "other vegetable" list....green beans are listed as string beans (many people overlook that). Net carbs are carbs minus fiber equals net carbs.

Also, drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin daily. Look at the challenges to see if there is anything that interests you - start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/.

On Linda's site you can make half recipes bringing a 6 serving recipe down to 2 servings. My husband eats some of the recipes I make there and loves them even though he and my mom aren't on Atkins with me. Try a variety of her recipes, there are some I eat over and over and some I've made once and will not be trying again...lol!

                          Good luck to you.
                          Carole

Well I made my food for the week this morning, breakfast was yummy, Lunch....not so much. I think I'll suffer through the next 5 days I premade, and find something that doesn't taste so terrible for next week.

I'm excited though, I've been walking around all day with a goofy grin on my face just looking forward to a complete lifestyle change.
