  • Ugh..At highest weight ever 316 pounds

I've been a lurker on Atkins on and off for a couple of years...MY WEIGHt has gone from 279 down to 249 ...got my feelings hurt /went on antidepressants and it skyrocketed up to 316. I'm now OFF of the antidepressants (zoloft) and back on Atkins.
What I've learned about myself from going to counseling is that I basically suffer from low self esteem. I never learned or was allowed as a child to stand up for myself and when I do I'm made to feel like I'm stupid or wrong. It just gets too tiring to fight for myself and when I do I'm told I'm being bitchy or antisocial. The easiest remedy for this has been to kick these people out of my life and lo and behold the right sort seem to flow in and surround me. I'm learning to speak up and fight for myself slowly and regain the little girl that was repressed an never allowed to grow up and stand her own ground.
Now there is the huge hurdle to rebuild the foundation and good life habits and tackle the bad eating habits that I've exposed my children to over the years of being depressed and drugging myself with food.
And that is the bottom line for me I've been DRUGGING myself and medicating depression with food, As a teen when I was happy I easily stayed at 130 lbs but when I had the stresses of college and a bad abusive marriage the weight piled on , then the task of raising two children alone didn't help either. My oldest is not 18 and moving out and the youngest is 13yrs so it's now time for me to find that HAPPY PLACE again!

I know you can find your Happy Place. Just work it!!!
And so glad to hear what you have discovered about self esteem and over eating. I agree this is so often the case. Some people use foods like others use pills or alcohol.

          Welcome to the Atkins Board.

Glad you found the board and are ready to start the plan. Your introduction sounded close to what I've gone through, when things got bad I turned to food and alcohol - my drugs of choice, funny, they didn't work for me like I thought they would. Glad you are finding good people to surround yourself with, fighting for yourself and looking for a better place mentally to be.

Make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy locally of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com – I got a “used” copy recently for less than $5.00 including shipping.

Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?) make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over --
          http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin daily. Look at the challenges to see if there is anything that interests you - start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

I can't wait to see your progress. If you need anything we’re here to help you!!

          Good luck to you!
          Carole

Re: Ugh..At highest weight ever 316 pounds

That is exactly what I've been doing. I'm genetically wired for it too, my dad was an alcoholic and my mom suffers from anxiety and takes meds for it. I'm not a pill popper except for vitamins and I don't drink so food was the socially acceptable drug, but the extra poundage is not.
I don't know why it was sooo hard to admit to having low self esteem , I've always been a loud out going sort of person to the point of intimidating people and to hear the verdict is low self esteem what shocking...now I have to figure out how to soften my personallity to the world and still stand up for my self. I guess Dr.Phil would say," I was out to get the world before it got me ."
