  • Time to lose some weight

I first went on Atkin's six years ago and lost 40 lbs. I was losing weight so fast on the diet that I went from a size 12 to swimming in a size 4. It was getting hard to find cute clothes that I could wear, so I went off the diet. My appetite had shrunk and stayed that way for a while. I maintained a healthy size 6 for a couple years and eventually went up to an 8 until just recently. I think I overdid it over the holidays and with the stress of re-entering college I most recently had to buy a size 10 jeans. They are a bit big, but an 8 was tight. I want to go on Atkins again because it is easy (after the first week) and fast! My husband wants to lose 100 lbs., so we will work together. He went to culinary school at the CIA in NY and is really good at coming up with new recipe ideas, and I'm pretty good at it too. I joined this site to get recipe ideas from others and submit some as well. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

      Welcome to the Atkins Board.

Hi and welcome to ADBB. I’m glad you found the board and are ready to start the plan. Hopefully you will both meat your goals here. If you sstart loosing too quickly this time add more carbs to slow down your weight loss...make sure you go up the rungs slowly so you'll know the foods you can eat without problems and will be able to find the foods that are problematic.

Make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy locally of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com – I got a “used” copy recently for less than $5.00 including shipping.

Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?) make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over - the recipes with * in front of them are induction friendly.
      http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin daily. Look at the challenges to see if there is anything that interests you - start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!!

      Good luck to you!
      Carole

Re: Time to lose some weight

I did do those steps, but my appetite was so small at that point that I really wasn't eating much. So, I slowly started eating carbs again. For a while I could barely finish a kids meal at McDonald's and then I was back to being a full carb lover again. The weight really did come on very slow. It has been over 6 years since the diet and it is just now I think I need to do it again and make it more of a lifestyle.

Not "more of" ... it is a lifestyle!

"Eating carbs" (which we do during all phases of Atkins) does not mean eating McDonald's junk. You can choose healthy, whole foods that are higher in carbs.
