  • I'm very excited for the new me!

Hello, my name is Persephone and I'm from New Brunswick, Canada. I've been overweight and battling with depression since about the time I hit puberty. Those turbulent teens and roaring (early)twenties are behind me now and so here I am, at 27, and I really think I'm developing a fresh attitude towards how I've been running my life. Taking on the Atkins WOE is one step for this work in progress.

I started Induction on New Years Day. Isn't that so typical? Haha! Ketosis is in full swing for me right now and I'm just amazed at how I don't feel "ravenous" like I used to! This WOE feels very natural for me to settle into, as the idea of eating less processed, "pure" foods really appeals to me...but I'm sure I'll need some help sometimes. I've taken a look around the board and there are so many success stories-accomplished and in progress. I'm glad to find a place that seems full of positive energy.

    Good luck everyone!

Welcome. Though I didn't have the overweight at puberty problem I can certainly see how it would lead to depression. It's hard enough to be a teen without all the physical and emotional things that go on with it. Then when you feel like things are out of your control it only goes down from there. Taking this step now (you're still young) can help you work through those things and put YOU in charge of YOUR life. Good luck on this new phase of a new you.

          Welcome to the Atkins Board.

Hi and welcome to ADBB. I’m glad you found the board and are ready to start the plan.

Make sure you read the book (2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution)- it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal.

Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?) make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over --
          http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin daily. Look at the challenges to see if there is anything that interests you - start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!!

          Good luck to you!
          Carole

Re: I'm very excited for the new me!

Hi Everyone! Thanks for the encouragement! I read the book in December when I borrowed it from a friend, but I'm going to pick up my own copy on the weekend. I've been doing ok as far as sticking to plan I think, but I'm constantly thirsty. I find that I'm also getting some strange muscle cramps and today, a wicked headache today. I read that this could just be my body adjusting, or it might be caused by a need for more magnesium and calcium so I'm going to pick up a supplement this weekend too to be on the safe side.

I noticed Dr. Atkins recommends a multi vitamin without iron, does anyone know why this is? The one I'm using has a little (2 mg) I hope it's ok...

Oi, I caved and had a diet soda today. It's made with sucralose and no caffeine, but still that citric acid isn't good. I'm gonna save that stuff for a treat, I promise!

Liv: We've got more snow than we know what to do with, but the weather itself hasn't been too cold-definitely mitten weather though. I live on the harbour (in Saint John) so the bay keeps us a bit warmer. My boyfriend is from the prairies so I've heard stories of how cold it can get out there. Brrrrr! Stay warm!

kellinga: Thank you for that. And you're right, learning to be in charge of myself is a very important step. I know I'll feel more confident without all of this extra weight on me. Atkins is just one of the goals I've set for myself. I'm also in university full time working on a degree in Psychology/Biology. Installing some discipline into my lifestyle is something ANA will really help me with.

I'll update my sig now so people can learn a bit more about me.

Because he thought most of us should be able to get enough iron from our diet since many of the foods we eat on Atkins are good sources of iron. Iron can easily build up, which does your health no good.

Some people do need iron supplementation. But unless your doctor recommended it, it's best to choose an iron free supplement.

The one I'm using has a little (2 mg) I hope it's ok...
2 mg is not much. I'd finish them and then get iron free ones.
