  • starting back on atkins

    Hello

I am restarting my Atkins WOE ... again !! ... i had good success over 20 years ago ... lost 60 lbs. in 3 mos. ... but my last few/many attempts have been discouraging ... slow or no loss, yo yo, etc. ... struggle with every ounce lost ... i also tried all the usual other diets like WW, scarsdale, starving myself ... none really worked ... on WW i gained ! ... on atkins my lipids are good, trigs are lower, glucose stable, i am more energetic, ... important other fact is that i am a recovering bulimic ... yes - you can be overweight and bulimic and even be a male ! ... i completed therapy in july 2009 and have been purge free since that time ... it is likely that years of bulimia ravaged my metabolism ... anyway, that is me ... starting over and hoping that the i can draw motivation from the nice folks on this board and hopefully i can inspire and maybe help some of you in return ...

    Re: starting back on atkins

    Welcome. Glad you are here.
And yes unfortunatly what happened 20 years ago probably will not happen again when it comes to lose weight. You will have to be more patient. You will have to be kind to your body and feed it the right stuff. Read the book and the stickies in our FAQ that may help you.

http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...lent-tips.html (A "MUST READ" for Newbies... 40 excellent tips!)

It will be important to follow the diet correctly. We use Atkins 2002 here. So it is a bit different than what you did 20 years ago. Good luck. Check in often. One of the things that people find hard to do when they have dieted a lot is to keep up motivation - this is one of the reasons we are here. We try to help each other.
Great that you got help with your Eating Disorder. Those can be so tough on a person.

      Re: starting back on atkins

      Welcome -

It's best not to compare what happened to you 20 years ago, your body is different, your lifestyle is different, etc. Follow the plan correctly eating only the foods you should you'll have success.

This is a great place to be and you'll find all the support you want or need. I hope you have the 2002 DANDR (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution) book it's the edition we follow on this site. Exercise, take a non-iron vitamin and drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water daily, daily. Check Linda's recipe site - it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Since you've done Atkins before you may enjoy the STAC (second time around club), they have a daily sign in that people enjoy Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet. Also many people start a journal to keep track of themselves. It’s also a great place to meet new people http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/journal-chats/.

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck.
      Carole
