    Hello,

I am Joyce and am new to this forum. I am not new to atkins diet and have lost weight many times on the diet. I am diabetic and would like to keep from going on medication.

Five years ago lost 80 lbs on atkins. Two years ago again started atkins and had lost 34 lbs in a month when I had blood testing. That is when doctor told me I was diabetic and my colesterol was through the roof. I stopped the diet and colesterol immediately went back to normal.

I find that atkins is the best diet for my losing weight, but I am afraid of my blood tests.

I started again because I was feeling really miserable, and feel much better on the diet.

I hope that things will level out.

Have you read what Dr. Atkins said about cholesterol?

      >>had lost 34 lbs in a month when I had blood testing.>>

Having blood work only a month in isn't advised ... blood work often spikes up ... that's why Dr. Atkins recommends waiting 6 months.

Also ... losing so quickly might not be in your long term best interests. The slower you lose the weight, the more likely you are to keep it off. And that's really the goal, right?

Welcome -- after I was on Atkins for about 3 - 4 months I had blood work and all my numbers had gone up also...I stuck with Atkins and the next blood work was lower - my last one all my numbers were in the good range, for the first time in 5 years. My A1C went from 10.3 last January to 5.3 last month.....stick with it you will feel better.

You reallly need to find a plan that you can stick with and stay on it to keep your diabetes from getting worse. Good luck
        Carole

          Hi, Joyce! Welcome to ADBB!

Have you read the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution recently? That's the book we go by here.
