  • Newbie onboard and struggling

Hi, I'm so glad to have found this forum. I've been dieting since Dec. 26th, but have only been on Atkins (induction) for seven days. I have to say that I'm finding it really tough going... I've little energy to work out (I used to go to the gym 3/4 times a week but have only managed one trip in the past week and even then I couldn't complete my regular workout) I also find I've lost concentration at work and am forgetful. I'm also hungry! I really want to keep going with this - and I hope that all the above is just a phase that eveyone experiences - please tell me that it'll be a walk in the park from day 8 onwards.

    Siasu,

    Welcome!

First off, you shouldn't be hungry. If you're hungry, eat!!!

Are you reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

Some people do find it difficult on Induction to keep up their regular workout routine ... it's because your body is adjusting to your new way of eating. However, since you say you're hungry, your fatigue could also be because you're not eating enough.

If you want to post a typical day's eating, with quantities and carb counts, we can take a look.

Are you getting all your water?

      Hi,

thanks for getting back to me. For example: a boiled egg for breakfast. Prawns and broccolli and mushrooms for lunch and a pork chop and some diced cucumber and cottage cheese for supper.

      I'm drinking water.

      I am hungry though...

You absolutely shouldn't be hungry on Atkins. Post what you ate yesterday and see if the experts can find your problem.

Induction flu could be the reason for your lack of energy/

Sorry we posted over eachother. How many eggs, why not add some sausage or bacon, you need more fat
          Again how many prawns?
Nix the cottage cheese, it isn't on the induction list and may be the cause of your problems. It comes later on.

Remember this diet is fat driven, so make sure you get plenty. Try using fitday.com

            No where NEAR enough food.

Also, cottage cheese isn't allowed on Induction.

PLEASE do some reading on how to do Atkins!!!

The book is vital. Until then,

How much water exactly are you drinking? You need a MINIMUM of 64 ounces (@ 2 liters).

                Welcome to the Atkins Board.

To get started, make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy locally of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com – I got a “used” copy recently for less than $5.00 including shipping not long ago.

Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list and make sure you eat ENOUGH everyday - starving is not the way to do Atkins! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?) make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over --
                http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), daily. Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!
