  • Hi everyone!

    Hi everyone,

Just to introduce myself, my name is Jenna and i'm 24 and live in South London. I've struggled with my weight for the last two years since i got diognosed with an under active thyroid.

    I'm about 5' 7" and weigh about 13 stone!!!!

I've been on the Atkins diet for a week now and to behonest can't notice a difference at all!!!

The first couple of days were torturous... i'm such a fussy eater I dont know how i've lasted a week ... i'm also quite dubious by the amout of fat i'm putting in my body and as I haven't lost any weight or inches.. I think I might be doing something wrong?????????

My typical daily intake is something like this:-

    Breakfast:
2 fried or poached eggs, 2-3 rashes of bacon and low fat (& carb obviously) beef burger, sometimes with one pork sausage. With either water or coffee & cream.

    Lunch:
Salami & mozarella Omlette/ or plain (3 eggs).

    Dinner:
Chicken salad - with low fat dressing.

Does this seem ok? Am I just being inpatient? SOMEONE HELP PLEASE!

    Re: Hi everyone!

    Welcome to ADBB!

Are you reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

One of the things I notice about your food is there's no vegetables. Most of your daily net carbs should be coming from Induction vegetables.

Also ... low fat dressing ... not the best one to chose. Atkins isn't "low fat".

What are the ingredients in the pork sausage? A lot of sausages in England have rusk and other fillers that aren't Atkins friendly.

How much plain water are you drinking per day? I would suggest about 3 liters for you.

Why a low fat burger? Are you making it from your own ground beef?

      Re: Hi everyone!

      Hi,

Thanks for replying! Firstly no i haven't read the book but will definately get it now! I'm obviously missing v.important info!

I've read on other low carb websites that vegetables, especially the one's i like are high in carbs ... not sure if this is right though ... I love carrots, brocoli, cawliflower cheese, swede, parsnips ... the sire did list low carb veggies but I've never even heard of the things they were suggesting!

The sauages are 72% pork, water, rusks, salt, spices, mace, pepper, stabilisers?, flour, and herbs... ???

the burgers are 80% beef with onion, potato starch , salt, maltodextrin?, onion powder, yeast extract, black pepper, mustard powder, coriander extract & sage extract.

What things are a big NO NO when i'm looking at ingredients?

Am i eating too many eggs? (At least 4 a day)

I HATE fish but i'm going to try a skinless fillet of cod later, hopefully I will like it!!!!

I've feel a bit stupid starting this without reading the book! no wonder I haven't seen results! ha, and i thought i was doing so well!

This is why you'll love the book - it states specifically the carb counts in all the veggies, and it's a plan for learning how to eat them (over time, during OWL).

Also, the list of induction veggies is an opportunity to explore new veggies you might not have tried or heard of, and you might find new favorites you wouldn't have tried otherwise!

Carrots are a higher-glyemic veggie and not allowed until OWL Rung 8.

The big no-no's are sugar in all its forms, aspartame, and added starches (potato starch, wheat flour, etc.).

Do use a site like Fitday (fitday.com) to log everything you eat, it'll help you keep track of your nutrition, carb counts, and fat/protein/carb ratio in your diet. Very helpful stuff.

I hate fish too, so, I'm not gonna eat it. I grant you permission to do the same.

Remember, this is a high fat diet - low fat sucks, natural fats RULE.

Enjoy real cheese, butter, and cream! Enjoy full-fat meats (treat yourself at least once with a high-end, well marbled, thick steak, it's DIVINE).

I've feel a bit stupid starting this without reading the book! no wonder I haven't seen results! ha, and i thought i was doing so well!
Meh, that's easily rectified. In the mean time, there's a bunch of stickies in the Induction and OWL forums that can help while you get the book and start reading.

            Welcome to the Atkins Board.

To get started, make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy locally of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) check online at
            www.half.com or www.amazon.com

Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list.
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?) make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces (64 ounces equals 1.89 litre) of pure water (nothing added), daily. Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there!
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!

              swede, parsnips
These are OWL Rung 8 vegetables as well, together with carrots. They are not appropriate for Induction.

I've never even heard of the things they were suggesting!
Are the veggies on the Acceptable Foods List for Induction more familiar to you?

The sauages are 72% pork, water, rusks, salt, spices, mace, pepper, stabilisers?, flour, and herbs... ???

the burgers are 80% beef with onion, potato starch , salt, maltodextrin?, onion powder, yeast extract, black pepper, mustard powder, coriander extract & sage extract.

What things are a big NO NO when i'm looking at ingredients?
              In the sausages... rusks, flour...

In the burgers... potato starch... And maltodextrin is a form of sugar.

              1. Corn syrup
              2. Dextrin
              3. Dextrose
              4. Evaporated cane juice
              5. Fructose
              6. Fruit juice concentrate
              7. Galactose

              13. Jaggery
              14. Lactose
              15. Levulose
              16. Malt

              26. Polydextrose
              27. Rice syrup
              28. Sucrose
              29. Sugar (or any stuff containing the word sugar in it, like turbinado/turbinated sugar, brown sugar, beet sugar, grape sugar, sorghum sugar etc.)
              30. Treacle

You can make your own sausages, if you really want sausages.

And if you buy ground beef, you can make your own burgers.

Am i eating too many eggs? (At least 4 a day)
No... but you might want to have more variety in your diet.

                Re: Hi everyone!

Thank you everyone for your feedback!!!

I now have the book so I'm going to do the Introduction stage for an extra week!

I think I am losing weight just not as drastically quick as other people, I wore a dress last night that hadn't fitted a few weeks ago, and does now, so it must be working!!!

I tried the fish and it was torturous to eat! every mouthful made me want to heave, so I wont be eating that again!

I've been keeping with the eggs, bacon & mushrooms for breakfast, a cheese omlette for lunch and chicken salad for dinner, which luckily i'm not bored of yet!

                Thanks for all you help!

                  Re: Hi everyone!

You need more variety that you are eating now....what happens when you are sick of eggs....because eating that many a day it may not take long before you feel like you did eating fish!

Are you getting 2 cups of salad veggies and 1 cup of veggies off the 2nd part of the list daily? How much water are you drinking daily? Exercise -- what are you doing?

Have you received your book yet and have you read it? Make sure you move on to OWL and start up the rungs soon because you don't have that much to loose and need enough time to go through the Rungs slowly to find the foods you will be able to eat easily and the ones that are trouble.
