  • New Member, with a question on drinks?

Hello All! My name is Diana, and I have been on induction for 1 week. But, I am having a hard time with drinking all that water. I do drink between 64-75oz. Before, I was a huge diet coke drinker. I am scared that if I don't found something else I can drink besides water that I will give into my diet coke cravings.

I found this drink at a local Family Dollar: Clear 'N' Natural-Naturally Flavored Sparkling Beverage. The ingredients are Carbonated water, citric acid, natural flavor, potassium benzoate, sucralose, & acesulfame potassium. Is this okay to drink on induction? Also, I am a little confused on if I have to count this drink as 1 net carb per serving, or just part of my 3 daily servings of sweetner? I have heard both, so just double checking. Thanks so much for the help.

    Welcome to ADBB!

    >>Is this okay to drink on induction?>>

It's as ok as diet soda. It doesn't count as plain water though. It's not likely to help you with your weight loss goals as plain water.

    >>just part of my 3 daily servings of sweetner?>>

It does indeed count as that.

Some people count a fractional carb for the liquid sweetener, too.

Ozzy, I'm a water hater myself so I know where your coming from but unfortunately only water counts for water. After your 80 oz if you want more to drink...after that....

I have a large glass by the sink and everytime I go by it, I fill it up and drink it down, sometimes I could only get a few swallows down, but now I can manage the whole glass.

For "something else" to drink, better options would be water with a slice of lemon or tea.

If it's only the bubbles you want, then sparkling water is fine to have. It doesn't count as water though.

I stopped thinking about how much I "Hate" water long ago -- once it wasn't the enemy it's been so much easier for me. Water is important for your body to function properly....without it we become dehydrated and our organs don't work properly. Try to get your water in first -- then drink a cup of herbal tea or a cup of decaf coffee. Also, many times when you think you're hungry you are actually thirsty -- so drink a glass of water first, then wait a few minutes (15 - 20) and see if you are still feeling hunger pains.

          Good luck.

Buy an iced tea maker and brew Celestial Seasonings orange, cranberry or black cherry teas. All natural, healthy and zero carb. Also caffeine free!

Artificial sweeteners are the blarg, and I can speak from experience as one who had been diagnosed with the pre-stages of MS following an MRI after 24 years of heavy aspartame use, aspartame is good for NO one. I'd say Splenda is a close second on the blargometer.

When you have time, I recommend watching the documentary "Sweet Misery". If that doesn't put you off of artificial sweeteners for life, I don't know what will.

The carbs aren't zero, only less than 0.5 g per serving.

Most fruit teas I find here, unless they have maltodextrin or other form of sugar added to them, have 0.4 net carbs per serving (1 tea bag + 200 mL of water).

No maltodextrins in the Celestial Seasonings teas I use. I am a pretty careful shopper and advocate when it comes to these things.

Adding to this, each tea bag makes two large glasses of iced tea, so many are looking at a healthy alternative to diet beverages with very little bang when some flava is needed.

The ones with maltodextrin usually have something like 0.6-0.8 carbs per serving... but I never buy those.

The carbs, at least up to a point, will depend on the volume of water used. We have carbs listed both for 100 mL (0.2 g) and 200 mL (0.4 g). The nutritional info on Celestial Seasonings is given for 8 oz.

I use a bag for every 16 ounces water, so my teas are weak but sassy! Celestial Seasonings is the bomb. I live in Boulder, so I live right near the plant where the manna is perfected. LOVE Boulder.

I'm new here as well but I did Atkins a few years ago (started right before it became huge and lost around 70 lbs), I love water but I found on atkins I needed something with some substance and flavor to it. And Diet Rite is the answer. It's sweetened with Splenda and has no caffeine.

Also the liquid versions of Crystal Light use Splenda as well. Based on what I have read here people are going to find fault with this next comment but I also drank Crystal Light (powder form), which contains aspartame but I didn't have any problems with it. Aspartame is YMMY, some people have no problem with it while it causes others to stall, if you do decide to try it wait until after induction.
