  • Feeling worn out and need suggestions...

Well here I go again...I am a stay at home mom to 3 beautiful children and have a good hubby but I just can't seem to get a grip on my weight. It yoyo's up and down and unfortunately has been creeping back up again..... it is so defeating. I am now at 256 and I feel so worn out. I don't share this weight problem with any in my family and I don't really have anyone that understands what it is like. I am struggling to get through a clean induction and know that it is essential for a true change of lifestyle. Any suggestions for this first few weeks would be great.

If there are moms out there with children or teens....how do you do it? I read so many posts and they are so inspiring....I want to not have to think about my weight 20 times before I even make it to breakfast. I want to play outside with the kids and not make excusses why I can't swim in the summer. Any suggestions would be wonderful.

    Thanks,
    mommabear

Re: Feeling worn out and need suggestions...

I'm a mother of 3, from teen to infant. I do it by just doing it, and not worrying and obsessing about eating off-plan on occasion. I keep my diet fairly simple for breakfast and lunch (check my blog; my breakfast and lunch is Induction-friendly, except for the feta cheese and carrots in my salad). More often than not, my toddler-aged eating machine shares my breakfast or lunch with me. Dinner isn't a fuss, either - my toddler and teen can eat what I eat and I add a starchy/bread side for them.

Let's face it: it's not like we're trying to live off of diet shakes or special (expensive) pre-made meals that your kids shouldn't have. Atkins is all about eating whole or minimally-processed food (especially vegetables!) with a focus on sound nutrition. If I couldn't feed what I eat to my kids...I sure as **** wouldn't eat it!

Hey mommabear, I also share your pain!! I have a 2 year old son and also have a daycare in my home for 6 children all between the ages of 1 and 4!! I find it difficult to stick to something because of the constant temptation...I am a big fan of Dr. Oz, and one tip he has for sticking to a plan is for two meals out of the day, eat the same thing, everyday, and yes its not much variety and yes it does get old, but when things are crazy, I know what I am having and dont have to take time to plan or think anything out..it also makes grocery shopping much easier! LOL...some people prob wouldnt agree with this, but it works for me...I eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch...everyday...and then switch it up for supper..it just takes guess work out of some of your meal planning!! I like it, and find comfort in it...hope this helps!!!

In place of only eating the same thing over and over 2 meals a day try following the Atkins plan - make a few meals in advance and put them in containers in your freezer so you can grab one and have it ready quickly. Linda's site has many recipes that freeze wonderfully or if they make too many servings you can cut them in half. http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Make sure you understand the plan the way Dr. Atkins wrote it - the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book is the edition we follow on this site - if you can’t find a copy locally of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com – I got a “used” hard cover copy recently for less than $5.00 including shipping not long ago.

Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?) make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), daily. Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!

You have to do it for you and you can. Plan a bit. Make a schedule and do not think so much - use the time for other stuff. Listen to some Katie Melua or something (I have 6 billion bycycles stuck in my head)

Re: Feeling worn out and need suggestions...

I'm a stay at home mom of 2 (9 & 10). We homeschool so they are home all day, every day so I too can feel your pain. Sometimes it's hard when I fix something sweet (bake cookies or something) but I don't stress over it. And if I mess up...I don't stress over that either (unless I mess up bad!)

I set mini goals for myself hoping that the tiny steps will lead me to my goal. In my mind, it's easier to lose 10lbs than 60. Also, I fix lots of whatever I cook for myself. If I'm eating a hamburger for lunch...I get 4 out of my little one lb package. I bought a family pack of chicken breast last week-made hubby some chicken n dumplings because he was sick - I took my chicken, broth & veggies out before adding the dough so we could all eat from the same stock. I cooked the rest of the batch of chicken - frying it for stir fry and salads. Then all I had to do was pull it from fridge, heat and eat whichever I was having. I pick up lots of frozen veggies when they're on sale so I can just dump a bag into the skillet and add some precooked meat and I can eat very quickly when the hunger comes calling.

I'm sure you have to get up extra early since you keep kids - can you try to get up 10-15 minutes earlier and fix yourself some scrambled cheesy eggs to get you going. If you're thinking about food a lot before you even get your day going, you may be waiting too long to eat. I know that's a lot to ask when you're probably already worn down, feeling defeated...that pillow feels sooo good and you don't want to get up but it may help you feel better pretty quickly.

Good luck and don't give up.

Re: Feeling worn out and need suggestions...

To all of you that have offered support and encouragement....

                Thank You!

I am on day 2 now and please don't underestimate how much difference your words of encouragement and support make to me and I am sure others as well. I have taken your advice and have begun to make changes that I know will have me feeling better in no time. I lost weight before with Atkins and remember how good it felt after a few days to a week. I remember finally feeling like I was in control and dieting didn't consume my life. So I will hold on to that too.

                Thankyou,

Re: Feeling worn out and need suggestions...

Make sure you eat lots of FRESH vegetables....frozen are good in a pinch but fresh have more nutrition in them plus they taste better. I'm useing frozen green beans now in place of canned because it's winter and I don't like the looks of what is in the store -- but just about every other veggie I eat is fresh.

The first few days are the worst -- after you get a few days behind you and see it's not that hard you'll be fine & a couple months from now you'll come back, re-read this and smile!

                  Good luck to you!

Not necessarily... unless one grows them.
