  • Hi!! I'm a Newbie :)

    Hello everyone!

Just introducing myself! I am new to Atkins! Have tried other diets in the past but i have a under active thyroid so i've found it hard to shift the weight and i lost intrest with the boring food options!

I started on Monday after buying the book and reading it over the weekend and so far i can't complain! i don't feel like i am missing out on anything or feel hungry!

I am really looking forward to weighing myself and taking my measurements at the end of the induction!

I have one question....can i drink tea? with Soya milk and a sweetener? I am an orginal yorkshire lass and do love a cuppa! hehe!

Soya milk isn't on the induction approved foods. Herbal tea is fine, and limit that sweetner/

Drink your herbal tea just remember it does not count toward your water count. Look into sweetzfree.com for your sweetener. You can put heavy whipping cream in your tea. YUM

          Welcome to the Atkins Board.

Is the book you read the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) that's the edition we follow here.

Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?) make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over --
http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html. There are several people here from the other side of the pond so you should find many people who can help you find things locally or to convert recipes.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (64 ounces equals approx. 1.89 litre), daily. Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!

            Re: Hi!! I'm a Newbie

            Welcome, Kimberley!

As Denise wrote, you can add heavy (double) cream to your tea. Single cream is fine, too.

For sweeteners, it can be any of the ones allowed on Atkins: sucralose (marketed as Splenda), saccharin, ace-K, cyclamate. If you prefer, you could also use stevia. You'll need to find which sweetener agrees with you.

              Re: Hi!! I'm a Newbie

              Thanks for the tip

I've never tried tea with cream before! i will give it a go! so far i've not had anything other than water but i do miss a cup of tea in the morning. Other then missing tea i feel fine really I will definatly look at some menus on here though as id like to mix it up! I've been trying to get hold of some of those 0g carbs chinese noodles (cant remember what they're called off the top of my head) but i can't find any in stock online and i don't know if i have a shop near me that would sell them

                Re: Hi!! I'm a Newbie

Leave the noodles for now. I bet you liked noodles pre-Atkins, didn't you? Use Induction to stop the want for pasta.

Check out those recipes on Linda's page: Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home

She has recipes for things such as spinach lasagna or zucchini noodles.

And this is Cleo's recipe for cauliflower lasagna: The Lighter Side of Low-Carb: Cauliflower as Lasagna?

Ricotta is not allowed during Induction, nor is cottage cheese... but it explains how to make the "pasta".
