    My name is Rachel and I started induction Monday January the 4th. I have read the book ( OK skimmed ) and the website and many resources.
    I'm following the acceptable foods... and the first few days were horrible... large amounts of diet pepsi and weekend large amounts of margartias were staples in my previous diet.
    I cut out all the caffine and alchohol. I drink allt he water needed. I eat veggies meat and some cheese ( keeping it at 3-4 oz ) a day... I did have some colby and I'm not sure if that's a problem or not, but the label said 0 carbs.
    I have bacon and eggs for breakfast, salad bar at lunch at my office cafeteria...so I'm not 100% on the dressings, whereas I have low to 0 carb dressings at home.
    and meat cooked in oil or butter and some final veggie for dinner.
    I have not been loosing since the first couple of days.
    I did get some Diet rite this weekend and have had 1-2 of those per day, but they say no carbs and are sweetened with splenda.
    Something I'm doing wrong... or it just goes in spurts... I feel better.. I feel like I've lost some weight already.. but my scale ( wii fit ) says no.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Welcome -- what are you eating on the salad bar at work? Just salad or are you putting other things on your plate (potato salad, cole slaw, etc)? Are you eating 2 cups of salad vegetables and 1 cup of vegetables off the 2nd part of the vegetable list?

    Diet Rite may be 0 carb but I know personally it's something I can't drink - I have 1 cup of black decaf in the morning and start drinking pure water the rest of the day. How much is "all the water needed" that you are drinking? 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added) is the minimum -- many of us follow the "drink half your weight in water" theory here.

    Why don't you take your own dressing to use at work? You can have dressing that has 2 carbs or less per serving (watch where the word sugar is on the label). Read the nutrition labels for ingredients -- not just the word "carb" -- it may say it's low or has no carbs but the ingredients show a different story.

    Is there sugar in the bacon you are eating? Once again, check your ingredients. I'm really wondering why the "large amounts of diet pepsi and weekend large amounts of margartias" diet didn't work for you....lol!

    Are you tracking your food intake on FitDay or another free program? And, are you weighing your food?

    Why don't you post your menu for a few days with exact amount of everything so we can help get you straightened out.

      you didn't say how much you need to lose so you could be doing just fine with what you already lost as weightloss isn't linear and will go in spurts.

      what are you doing as that mandatory exercise part of your atkins?

      Colby is fine you can eat any aged cheese as your cheese amounts for induction.

      As was mentioned above what exactly are you having for that lunch salad would be a possible place you need to fix.

        Let's see..
        Not measuring precisely, but yes.. my salad at work is at least 2 cups and then at least another cup of veggies for dinner.
        no potato or other salad, just lettuce, sprinkle of cheese, hard boiled egg, smidge of onion cold grilled chicken or turkey sometimes. maybe an artichoke heart, 5-6 slices black olive and mushrooms.
        I'd say about 2 servings of dressing ( don't know the nutritional info ).

        What mandatory exersice?

        I'm at 167 now. didn't weight on the start day, but did a few days earlier at about 172 I think.
        5'6" with a goal of 135.

        I don't really understand the statement about the diet rite... you can't drink it becuase it messes with the diet or becuase you don't like it. I don't drink coffee. I drink a minimum of 64oz of pure water... sometimes I do add a squirt of lemon juice.

        I'll start bringing my own dressing... I have some ( Ken's Steakhouse Ceaser ) that lists 0 carbs per 2 Tbls serving... so I count that as one carb for a couple servings at home.

        I did get on and weigh today and it said lost 1.5 lbs, but I hadn't eaten dinner yet.

        I'll start tracking exactly... or have to bring my own wieghed salads to work maybe..

          It's not 0 carbs.

          And with 4 kinds of sugar in it, it not really the "best" choice.

          And cheese isn't 0 carb either. All cheese has carbs.

          If you ever see a label that says 0 ... be suspicious!

            Okay, I realize that's probably a joke and I'm ... but exercise is mandatory on Atkins. Choose something you like and start moving.

            How many servings is that? Are you counting each serving as a serving of sweetener? Sweeteners are limited to 3 servings per day.

            My advice is to use Induction to starve your sweet tooth. Drinking diet sodas won't help.

            lists 0 carbs per 2 Tbls serving... so I count that as one carb for a couple servings at home
            Tricky American labels. As J. pointed out, the carbs are not zero... so you're doing good counting 2 servings as 1 net carb.

            And since the dressing has sugar added, you'll need to count it towards your sweeteners, too.

                well, I realize it's not 0 carbs when you go over the serving size... but the bottle I have does say 0 carbs per serving... ( and pretty extra advertising to that effect on the front ) I understand on the sugar. I'll check the label on the bottle I have.. which does not match what I found for information on it online ( if that's what you're referencing )

                AND yes. I do realize that cheese has carbs... I read enough of the book and plenty online to realize that.

                95% of the book is recipes which I was very disappointed with ( I don't wan the recipes ) and so when I began reading I found it was pretty much what I had already read online.

                No I wasn't counting the diet Rite as anything.. because what I'd read said to count the packets as one carb, becuase there are things added for packaging... I didn't think that counted for drinks with it in that.. but the 1-2 probably didn't put me over the edge... I'm generally under the 20 by my count.
                I am reasonably active... but just the same as i was before I started.

                Honestly... is there someting in the book that says anything with sugar is counted against the sweetners... I missed that... and in the basic rules and acceptable foods list and the FAQs and everything.
                I do appreciate everyone's input.. don't get me wrong.
                but the one thing I've found from reading online -- many forums and posts... is that everyone has their own 'interpretation' of the diet.. even those who have read the book.

                Doesn't all bacon have sugar...
                I don't see in the rules of induction where you count the sugars... I don't have a sweet tooth at all... as anyone who has drank diet pop realizies.. I may have had an addiction to aspartame...

                I'm going by the labels on the food itself.. and I find fitday to be a pain becuase the serving options never match what I had... but I'll give it another try... it also doesn't match the label sometiems... so I consider the label golden.
                I'll keep plugging away.. be more concious of the sugars.. but I dont' see the rules on that ( no I don't have the book in front of me right here )

                  thanks for clearing up the salad content info and how much you need to lose.
                  There are several sugar free bacons availible Walmart has one and the low sodium Kroger bacon is sugar free too.

                  So what are you doing for your exercise. I started walking until I was in good condition and then added weight training as I walked faster and longer all the way to goal weight. some folk love to dance so they put on some usic and move around for 30 mins of exercise. Pick what you enjoy and then make it a habit.

                  check your inches lost now and then again on day 15 and see if you aren't smaller. you can use the 6WEC locations of neck chest bust hips waist and thigh,calf,wrist,and bicept all times 2 to see how many inches of body fat you are shedding working your atkins.

                    I spend 30 minutes or so on wii fit in some form or antoher.

                      Everyone is different, but to be exactly on Atkins, yes, you need the sugar free.

                      The brand I use is not - it's a very minor ingredient - but it seems to cause me no problems. Your mileage will vary.

                        Are you sure you have the right book?

                        My DANDR 2002 has recipes from page 382 to 491 (110 pages)... and the book has 540 pages... so that's only 20% of the book.

                          well, I think I'll have to modify it to fit my reality anyway... I'll look for sugar free bacon.. but yes.. I looked and it's low on the list... as with the dressing..
                          Do I have the right book... well now I'm thinking I dont.. but I'm not at home...

                          OK 95% is maybe an exageration..
                          I have lost three pounds now in the last two days.. and I think about 1.5 or so more today.. will weigh in later... so I guess I'm doing something right... quitting the work salad bar and replacing with grilled chicken piece and some ( one serving ) of salsa.. a couple slices of tomato.

                              Welcome and best of luck to you on your new journey! This is a great board with endless advise. One thing that I noticed is that you seem to be weighing yourself alot. I'm not going to ask you not to, however there are going to be days where you will weigh yourself and gain a little weight before it actually comes off. Just wanted to share that with you so you do not get discouraged when it happens because it will. The scales can be a dangerous thing. But enough about that. Again welcome and good luck!
