  • 2nd Time Lucky?

    Hi All,

I had my 2nd baby 3 months ago and its high time I shed the excess weight that I put on both during and after the pregnancy. I started a couple of days ago and all seems to be going well so far. I need all the support I can get because the rest of my household is not on a diet...so imagine the temptation. However, I am determined to shed the weight and feel healthy again. I have been down the Atkins route before after my 1st baba and lost 30kgs in 5 months.. but I am a bit rusty now and have to re-read the book. Needless to say, its good to be back.

    Are you breastfeeding?

Then the only phase of Atkins you should follow is Maintenance. Dr. Atkins wrote that the weight loss phases are not appropriate for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.

To follow Maintenance, start at 50-60 net carbs per day. If you see that you are losing more than 1-2 lbs per week, then you will need to increase your carbs. Your carbs should come mostly from vegetables, as well as from other nutritious carbohydrate-containing foods (diary, berries, nuts, legumes, fruits, starchy vegetables and whole grains).
