  • Day 3 of induction

    Hi everyone!

I have been lurking around here since I started Atkins 3 days ago. The first time I committed myself to losing weight was about 5 years ago. I did weight watchers very successfully and went from 225 lbs to 175 lbs in approx 8 months. I was able to keep the weight off and actually continued to lose weight down to about 165 up until about 2 years ago. That's when I started a relationship, moved in together, bought a house, etc. I really let myself slip and put weight back on up to 214 lbs which is what I weighed 3 days ago. Over the past two years I have unsuccessfully tried weight watchers, limiting calories, attempted South Beach etc. I realize now when I tried low carb before how wrong I was doing it. I ate little to no fat and not nearly enough calories which is totally why I failed.

As of right now I am on day 3 of induction, I have some serious ketosis breath (really sweet tasting) and I am feeling great. I am having no difficulty sticking to this so far which has been really positive. I am turning 30 at the end of January and I really feel like enough is enough!! I want to get weight off and keep it off while I'm still young-ish because I know that it will just get harder as I get older. Also, there is a good likelihood that I will be getting married in the next year and I want to feel and look great for that!

I am going to post what I ate all day yesterday, any feedback or tips would be great! I am a total carb junkie and I really feel like this will get me back on track.

    Breakfast:
    2 eggs scrambled
    4 slices turkey bacon
decaf coffee with 2 Tbsp 1/2 and 1/2, splenda

    Lunch:
Roast Beef and swiss cheese rolls w/ 1 tsp mayo
(about 1/3 lbs beef, 2 1/2 slices swiss)

    Snack:
couple handfuls of pork rinds (not sure how I feel about these)

    Dinner:
Buffalo chicken salad made out of- 3 cups lettuce/1 cup spinach, chicken breast tossed with Franks buffalo wing sauce (0 carb, 0 calorie!!), 3 Tbsp full fat blue cheese dressing (0 carb), bacon bits

Liquids: around 100 oz water, 2 cans diet sprite

I have already lost 7 pounds, but I really do think a lot of this is water because I have been going to the bathroom like crazy!!

Thanks for all the support and I love reading the posts!!

Your food choices look great. I don't know how I feel about pork rinds either, but I like dipping them in sour cream sometimes.
Make sure your eating enough food, never let yourself get hungry cause what happens is your body holds onto the fat because it thinks your starving it to death.

    Glad you joined.

I do think that I am definitely eating enough food. That is the problem that I have always encountered in the past and why I have not succeeded with weight loss (other than WW a few years back). I am not someone that can feel hungry and be functioning properly. I haven't felt hungry at all since I started this. Thanks!!!

        Welcome to the Atkins Board.

To get started, make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy locally of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com – I got a “used” hardbound copy recently for less than $5.00 including shipping not long ago.

Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?) make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over --
        http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

What exercise are you doing? Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!

Half and half is half milk.

Heavy and light cream are acceptable on Induction. They are limited to 3 tbs per day, as a beverage.

          3 cups lettuce/1 cup spinach
This is not enough for your vegetables. Over half of your net carbs should come from veggies. If you're eating only lettuce and spinach, this isn't going to happen... unless you eat a mountain of them. There are more nutritious vegetables on the Acceptable Foods List.

Franks buffalo wing sauce (0 carb, 0 calorie!!)
The carbs are not zero, because the ingredients have carbs. However, they are probably low. USDA lists 0.08 net carbs for 1 tsp of hot sauce.

3 Tbsp full fat blue cheese dressing (0 carb)
Again, the carbs are not zero. Cheese has carbs.

In the US, if the carbs are less than 0.5 g per serving, the number is usually rounded down to zero. So you might be eating 0.49999 carbs per serving. More servings, more carbs.

          bacon bits
Is this real bacon or imitation? Did you read the list of ingredients?

          couple handfuls of pork rinds
Did you measure how much you actually ate?

Were they flavored? The flavored kind often have sugar. Make sure you read the list of ingredients?

          splenda
          How much Splenda?

          2 cans diet sprite
Each serving of diet soda needs to be counted as one serving of sweetener. Sweeteners are limited to 3 servings per day.

I would suggest you use Induction to starve your sweet tooth. Drinking sodas, even the diet kind, won't help with this.

How many calories are in that menu?

Also... your net carbs from vegetables should be spread throughout the day. Other than eating more nutritious vegetables, add some veggies to your lunch, too... not only to dinner.
