  • Newbie!

    Hello everyone!

I am bunnyfoofoo! I'm 26 and I currently teach English in Japan. I have been on many diets before and have lost weight on them, the weight has not stayed off.

On the most recent one, I went to this very luxurious weight loss clinic that guaranteed medically supervised results. I was really happy about this because it looked like I would get a lot of support and encouragement. The first time I went in, everyone was super nice and promising me that this would work and how happy I would feel, etc. So I paid the money and joined and then saw the doctor. She put me on 2 types of appetite suppressants and a 700 calorie diet. At first, everything worked. I dropped 25lbs. in 2 months and was looking good. I went on a trip to see family and ran out of the pills. The days that followed were horrible. I got terrible cravings and felt like I was starving. I also had no energy and just fell terrible.

Needless to say I never went back. I don't want to be dependent on pills and I don't want a quick fix. I want to be healthy and happy with my body. I gained all of that weight back and now I want to lose it the right way. I hope that this forum will help me to stay on task. I look forward to meeting new friends!

    Re: Newbie!

Well this is the right place. Please if you haven't already buy the book. Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002. It is the best tool you could have. You can get one online really cheap too. But until then please read through this board and find the rules and acceptable foods list. I am sorry I can't link to them because I am still really learning this site even though I have been on here since 2004 LOL. I just have trouble finding stuff. I know there are experts here that will be linking to the important stuff in minutes.
Also one important thing, this is not at DIET this is a way of life. If you eat this way short term and go back..LIKE ANY OTHER "DIET" YOU WILL GAIN ALL THE WEIGHT BACK. This is a 4 phase plan that will help you to become more healthy and energetic and yes THIN but you'll keep it off. BUT ONLY IF YOU STICK TOO IT. Take it from someone who has fell off and gotten back on..it isn't as easy the 2nd or 50th time around. I feel so good eating like this. You will too
    God Bless

      Welcome to the ADBB, bunnyfoofoo!

I've been to those weight loss places too but their 700 calorie diets are too restictive and hard to stick too long term because I was always hungry and the battle to stay on plan consumed my whole day.

Atkins is the real answer to eating healthy, filling foods and still losing weight. Just don't be afraid to eat the things that low-fat diets tell you are good for you. It's the carbs that are the villians!!!

          Welcome bff
Do you have a lot you want to lose? This is not a guaranteed weightloss path either. I takes a lot of dedication - especially to keep weight off. Thee is no easy out there I think. Glad you did not want to do that pill thing. Did not sound healthy to me.

            Liv:

            Thanks!!

Losing weight is definitely a goal, but it isn't the reason I chose Atkins. I honestly feel like I am addicted to carbs and I hate the fact that I constantly crave them and turn to them as a source of comfort. I just got married and I don't want my husband to have to watch me suffer with an addiction.

I am currently 5'5" and weigh 174.2 lbs. I would love to be 140 lbs., but overall I just want to be happy with myself!

              Re: Newbie!

              Welcome to the Atkins Board.

To get started, make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy locally of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com – I got a “used” copy recently for less than $5.00 including shipping not long ago.

Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?) make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over --
              http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), daily. Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!
