  • Intro and request for advise

    Hi,

My name is David and I live in the UK with my wife and grown up son. I am a fan of the diet but am puzzled why in the second week of induction I put on 2 pounds but in the first week I lost 10! I did not cheat in the 2nd week and can only think it was because I did not take anything to aid my constipation that was up to 3 days.

Please can anyone suggest what may have happened?

It's not unusual to lose more weight in the first week, because we are also losing a lot of water weight along with some fat.

As for the gain... there could be many reasons for it. Without a menu, it's difficult to say. If you want to post one, please include quantities and net carbs for all foods.

You might have also gained weight just because. It happens.

How much water are you drinking?

    Are you exercising?

Constipation can be a reason for weight gain.

How many grams of dietary fiber are you consuming daily, on average?

This is just a very strange diet, and your body is adjusting. You may have eating more salt this week, you might have lessened the amount of water you drank. I couldn't stay off the pot this week and I've lost 4 pound, all water, it has to be, but if I over do the sodium, I"m back up in a minute.

Thanks to those who have replied to my post. The salt point is possibly the case as I did take more than usual to pep things up a bit. My fibre intake was next to zero so this week I am continuing induction with; more water, fibre and swimming. There was also a day when due to work I had to go for more than 6 hours without food and my water intake was way down.

        Cheers for now.

So you're not eating any vegetables?

How much weight do you have to loose? If you are eating vegetables you should get enough fiber to keep you system regular. Also, since you aren't eating all the bread & other carbs you were eating before you won't have as much waste as you did before.

Make sure you're eating 2 cups of veggies off the 1st list of vegetables and 1 cup of vegetables from the 2nd part of the list daily. Make sure you pick the vegetables with the highest fiber content...things like iceberg lettuce aren't the best choice - try something like fresh spinach instead.

Make sure you are drinking enough plain water -- 64 ounces is the minimum daily you should be drinking.

Also, salt will cause water retention -- try other seasonings to pep up the flavor of your food. Good luck!

Thank you very much for the advice. I do need to drink more water and I am taking flax daily to ease things up a bit!

              Good luck to you.
