  • New here but old to Atkins

I began Atkins back in the late 90's, read the book and never quite did it right until maybe 2006 when I dropped 60 lbs and loved it - but like many other I floated off and gained it mostly back. Now I am back and a little broken and a little scared but I know I need to lose this weight. I am tempted by the ease of available foods but love to cook. I will be running around the forum today and all week trying to learn from everyone.

    thanks for having this board

    Welcome to ADBB, Mark!

Do you have the 2002 edition of DANDR? That's the one we go by at ADBB.

        Here are some differences.

The 1999 plan uses total carbs... while in the 2002 plan it's net carbs that count.

There's no limit on cheese in the 1999 plan... while in the 2002 plan, cheese is limited to 3-4 oz per day during Induction.

Rule #5 of Induction is different in the two plans. You have the 1999 book, so you know what it says there... and here are the Rules of Induction in DANDR 2002:

Sweeteners were not limited in 1999, with the exception of aspartame... while in 2002 all sweeteners are limited to 3 servings per day.

For OWL, while the Carbohydrate Ladder is mentioned in the 1999 edition of DANDR, it only refers to adding foods in 5 g carbohydrate increments. In 2002, the Carbohydrate Ladder is organized in nine levels, in the order in which different food groups should be added back in the diet.

Hi and welcome back to Atkins Mark --

Good for you getting back on plan! This is a great place to be and you'll find all the support you want or need. Exercise, take a non-iron vitamin and drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure. Check Linda's recipe site - it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over --
            http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Since you've done Atkins before you may enjoy the STAC (second time around club), they have a daily sign in that people enjoy Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet. Also many people start a journal to keep track of themselves. It’s also a great place to meet new people http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/journal-chats/.

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck.
