Something like this, probably:Originally posted by hyma View PostCan I just eat lot of protein and Veggies and avoid aft completely? What is the side effect

It's not Atkins, in any case.

A couple of years ago I tried eating just lean meats and veggies with no fat. I was able to sustain it for two weeks before I completely melted down. I personally wouldn't recommend it. I've been doing Atkins for 7 days now and feel great!!! Waaaaaay better than I ever did when I tried low carb with no fat. I would recommend trying Atkins the way it is written. No fat will make you go nuts and then you likely won't stick to it.

You wouldn't be doing Atkins... it wouldn't be healthy... and you'd feel like crap.Originally posted by hyma View PostWhat is the side effect

Your body needs fat. Many vitamins your body uses are fat soluble and it is the fat that keeps you satiated. Too much protein can have ill effects too. Read the book and do it right. Not following the plan is when people get frustrated and develop complications.

I don't understand. I haven't read the book I am planning to buy and read it.But wanted to know about the diet before starting it. People say reducing the fat is the first step for weight loss right. Then how eating high fat food helps to slim down. I am a newbie and have very less knowledge about foods, how body uses them, etc ... can someone please throw more light and say logically how this food combination works to slim down

what people? do they have any scientific studies to back up their statements? if so I'd sure like to see one that was peer reviewed with the same results and conclusions.People say reducing the fat is the first step for weight loss..
Dr Atkins had a study comparing folk eating pure protein vs pure carbs vs pure fats, same amount of total cals for the same conditions and same length of time.
the fat eaters lost more weight than anybody.
There are many studies that have been peer reviewed that support the low fat causes weight gain and higher cholesterol too.
so read the book and lean how to do atkins correctly. Dr Atkins had over 40 yrs as a medical doc putting folk on his plan for weight loss and improved health.
Try it you will be amazed at the changes your body will make eating the healtheir Atkins.
now we don't drink bacon grease by the cup but we do enjoy healthy fats as part of our Atkins natural fats found in aminals, fish and fowl, nuts, seeds, eggs, and dairy along with a few other fatty veggies and fruits like avacados.by the book atkinseer

Once you sit down and read the book, the eating methodology of Atkins will make sense. Good for you for asking the questions here, but you should seek the answer in the book - Dr. Atkins devoted a nice, big chunk of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution 2002 to explaining why this way of eating works. Frankly, you shouldn't start this or any other way of eating unless and until you have thoroughly investigated it and accept the premise and science backing that plan. So again, kudos for asking the question - and happy reading!Originally posted by hyma View PostI don't understand. I'll add The Minnesota Starvation Experiment to the list of Wiki links. IIRC, the experiment used a very-low-fat diet in the starvation phase, similar to what post-war populations would be eating in Europe.Originally posted by Georgiana View PostYou wouldn't be doing Atkins... it wouldn't be healthy... and you'd feel like crap.

Welcome --
So you will do well - before you start Atkins get the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book -- READ IT --- make sure you understand what you are doing and following the plan to the letter.
If you can't find a copy of the book locally check www.half.com or www.amazon.com and purchase a copy there -- look under "used books" to find one that is cheaper - my last copy was under $5.00 including shipping - so for less than a meal at a fast food place invest in your health and buy the book.
Good luck to you.Carole_____________________May Water 130oz daily

There are low carb programms out there with less fat than Atkins. But eating like this works as it is super healty. Me and the people you seeing posting in before an after or in success stories lost their weight eating fat. Fat is great. You do not get fat eating fat. You cannot

Re: Should I take lot of fat in induction phase. ? Plz help
Sorry for more doubts. I want to get well educated on this.
I have another question. The llink Why Low-Carb Diets Must Be High-Fat - Second Opinions, UK says body can use glucose, fat or ketones for energy and prefers to do it following order(fatty acids, ketones, glucose). when I do low carb diet if I dont eat fat, why cant my body take all fat from my stored fat and make me slim. Why do I need to take more fat to give energy to body as glucose is less?
Please help me understand things

Re: Should I take lot of fat in induction phase. ? Plz help
Barry Groves who you are linking to there is (along with Atkins) one of the people who believe that when you eat a lot of protein it turns into glucose - so it will be like eating carbs.
So you are basically back to fast fat storing again - which is why you stopped eating carbs in the first place
So when we take out the carbs it is much more safe to replace it with fat. Fat is very difficult to turn into glucose. It is also far more safer to eat than excessive amounts of protein - which may put strains on your kidneys.
It is also cool
