Just wanted to check in here! My name is Kristan and I've been battling my weight since high school.

I lost about 30lbs last year around this time with a local weight loss company, but decided it was getting too expensive buying their "nutrients" aka protein powders, at around $120/week! Ouch! Just to clarify, I was eating whole foods, just measuring and controlling portions in addition to their nutrients. I tried to continue on my own with different protein shakes, but didn't keep up with it. I think the main part of my success was that I had to go in 2-3 times a week to weigh in.

So the weight started creeping back up over the last year and I've finally decided I had to do something different! The turning point was when I went to try on wedding dresses....ugh!! Not pretty!

My mom has had great success in the past with Atkins, but never went past the induction phase and gained it all right back. I tried a few times but was never committed and would always binge on carbs the third or fourth day!

So I'm here to "change my family tree" and get this under control the right way! I'm on day 5ish of induction (kinda halfway started on Sunday, but pulled in the reigns Tuesday) and will probably continue on an extended induction for another month or two.

We are going on a cruise in April and getting married in May so I'm hoping to be down at least 25lbs by then.

In addition to Atkins, I'm doing the Couch to 5K running program (soooo not a runner!!) and also working with a trainer for my strength training!

    Re: New here

Wow you are working it hard. That is great. I did the C25K programme almost two years ago. I could hardly run 20 seconds when I started. And yes it was hard. Especially the beginning. But I have sort of turned into a runner now. Important, as you have already learned, to try to lose weight with a method that you can build on and continue into maintenance.
Good luck on "changing the family tree"

Good to know it can be done! I used to LOATHE running, but now on week 3 I'm actually looking forward to going to the gym and doing my C25K run. I'm hoping to do my first 5K in May!

          Welcome to the Atkins Board.

To get started, make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy locally of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com – I got a “used” copy recently for less than $5.00 including shipping not long ago. Don't just stay on induction -- go through the rungs including maintenance and you'll keep your weight off for a lifetime.

Eat a variety of foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html. Make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over --
          http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), daily. Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!
