    Hi Everyone my name is Bianca and I live in Cape Town, South Africa;

Im very new at this and quite scared. I would normally think, that eating so much meat and fat and cooked in oil, would make a person blimp up!!! But after reading all the success stories, Im very shocked.

My mom has been on this eating plan since the 6th of January 2010 and lost so far to date 5 kg. I was pleased with her progress and I have asked her to tell me more about the eating plan and what she eats etc.

Just one thing Im really worried about is putting the weight back on again, as I have tried numerous diets in the past and they all back fired.

I have chlosteral problems as well as high blood pressure, will this diet not effect it?

How stages is this eating plan and what foods work best for weight loss? Do I get to eat fruit again, or do I introduce this in small stages, once I have reached my goal weight.

Everyone's help would be greatly appreciated, as Im quite a new be on this one.

    Regards;
    Bianca

    Re: Scared

Bianca, welcome to ADBB. There is no reason to be scared if you do two things: first, get the book and read it before you start. The only way to do this and be healthy is to follow the plan as Dr Atkins intended. Second, don't look at this as a diet. If you abandon this way of eating you WILL regain your weight and quickly. But Atkins is a lifetime approach to carb and weight control. You will get many foods back in their time. And there may be some foods you might not be able to add back in (Ongoing Weight Loss will teach you this) but you can have fruit, whole grains and many other foods in time although never in the quantities you used to eat them.

I have been on Atkins for over six years and feel great. I wish I could say that I have followed it faithfully but I can't. But I never stray too far or for too long. I physically feel a million times better on Atkins!

Read the book, understand why this plan works. You will love the food. The only problem is that it's for life, and if you go off, it's possible you will balloon back up. BUT its a wonderful plan for life

        Re: Scared

No diets work. The body is predisposed towards putting weight back on. If you were holding at 250 lbs and get to 125 the body wants desperatly to get back to 250 and will do it as soon as you throw it a bone. (start eating the crap you were eating before)

So you have to chose a plan that you know you can develop into an eating plan for life.

And yes - read the book - it answers your questions. Can you find it in stores where you are?

          Welcome to the Atkins Board.

To get started, make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy locally of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com – I got a “used” copy recently for less than $5.00 including shipping not long ago.

Eat a variety of foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html. Make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over --
          http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), daily. Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!

            Re: Scared

You shouldn't be scared - You should be EXCITED!!!!

When I first started I was worried about eating so much meat and fat too...
Induction is 'high fat' but as you move through OWL your %'s really balance out..

I had high cholestrol and mine improved a LOT.

            Anyway, good luck!!

Doesn't sound like you've read the book - you need to do that!!!

              Re: Scared

Thanks everyone for the help, my mom has got the book, so she is explaining to me the ins and outs of the eating plan. It is my 2nd day and I must say I feel good, alot more energy. I eat my meat, veggies and salad, as per the book. I'm going through withdrawal systems, as I have'nt had sugar, coffee since Sunday. So Im quite proud of my self.
I have my weighed myself and taken my measurements, so Im def going to keep a record.

Just another question though, how much weight do you lose in a week, or does it differ from person to person and how well you stick to the eating plan?

Once again, thank you so much for all the advise!!!!

Take Care and wish me luck!!!!

                Re: Scared

You should lose about 10 percent of what you want to lose during induction So if you want to lose 25 pounds, you probably will lose 2-3 pounds, if you want to lose a 100, you'll lose 10. Now we are all different, but thats usually how it works.

Yes, it differs from person to person. There's no benefit in expecting to lose X lbs. You might be setting yourself up for disappointment.

Focus on eating right and learning the plan. Losing weight fast has nothing to do with long term success.

I would suggest you read the book yourself.

                    Re: Scared

Thanks for the advise everyone - I will be reading the book, just waiting for my mom to finish up though. Other than that I have done quite a bit of research on the Atkins diet, via the internet etc.

I fully agree on not focusing on how much weight you want to lose, it is focusing on how you want your life to change and to keep that life style.
Im sick and tired of always being the plump one, out of friends.

My guns are loaded and Im ready to roll!!! This will be a long life challenge!!!!
