    Hi everyone!
    I am 39 years old and am probably one of the most unhealthy people I know. I smoke, I dont exercise, and normally I eat whatever I want.
    I just finished the major part of my battle with breast cancer and now it is time to get HEALTHY!
    I will be having surgery this spring and am on a bit of medications right now.

    I look forward to getting to know you all. I am excited to get going.

    Today is my first day. My first major acoplishment (sp) is no sugar in my coffee! Normally I drink about a pot of coffee a day, each cup (probably 16 oz) I put about 2 tbs of sugar. So just having coffee with NO sugar is great for me.

    I am reading a lot, to make sure I do this right.
    I would love some suggestions as I have a major sweet tooth and always find I want something sweet after I eat.

    I see a lot of banners on the bottom of everyone's posts and would love to have one too. So feel free to send it to me.

    I have stocked up the house with good healthy foods that are appropriate for induction. I am still a little unclear on a lot, so I am running to the computer to double check.

    I see a lot of you have set mini goals, I will be doing them later tonight or first thing tomorrow.

    Welcome Deb. Glad to have you here. Sounds like you are getting ready to work it.
    About sweet tooth - and I have a big one too- what I did was just to starve it. Refuse to give in and have no sweets for those first two weeks and it gets better. I that does not work you can try a supplement called l-glutamine that some thinks help.

      Welcome to the

      If you read the book, you will see that Induction is also a time to hopefully break the sweet tooth habit. It is best to get rid of the sweet tooth than to "feed" it! It can just lead to more cravings.

          Mission~ I dont have the book, but will be getting it soon. So for now I am reading online. I "know" I need to drink water, but I am heavily addicted to my coffee, so I have set one of my mini goals to start replacing coffee with water on Wednesday. I have been drinking more, just not nearly as much as I should.

            Oh yeah, the pic of me may look a little strange. I have a mohawk in it~lol I got it right before I lost my hair from chemo. I dont normally look like that.

              Deb,
              Don't worry about the pic.
              Now, About the Water and Coffee....

              Start by drinking at least the minimum 64 oz of water right away. Don't think about subbing the water for coffee. They are apples and oranges.
              The water is necessary.

              Now, about the coffee. I don't know if you are planning on cutting back or cutting it out completely, but whatever you do, do it gradually to avoid the caffeine withdrawal symptoms.

              Drinking enough water is vital on Atkins
              for many reasons:

              1) It helps to flush toxins and fats out of the body;
              2) protects the kidneys;
              3) prevents dehydration;
              4) helps prevent constipation;
              5) helps with water retention; and
              6) keeps your skin healthier

                Mission~ Thanks a million! OK I am redoing my mini goals. I will add water in starting tomorrow. I started reducing my carbs on Wednesday and have been getting head aches everyday, so I am sure the water will help and yes I understand about the caffeine withdraw.
                Do you know if I can purchase the book as an E-Book? I am gonna start looking for it now. I want to do this right.

                  I thought I saw someone say the e book was possibly not a complete version, not sure. I do know that if you check ebay or amazon(look for the used), or those used book internet sites you can get the book quite cheap, but not fast. My book was $14.00 at at a Borders bookstore here in Illinois. Just make sure it is the correct version I gave you above.

                    My book was under $5.00 including shipping for a hard cover book. I got mine at www.half.com -- if they don't have one try www.amazon.com. Look under "used" -- mine was brand new (never been opened) even though it was considered used by them.

                    When I first started I drank at least a pot of decaf a day by myself - with splenda and coffee mate creamer. The day I started I decided to drink 1 cup of coffee with 1 packet of splenda and a small amount of cream then start drinking water and keep sipping until dinner -- then I could have another cup of coffee -- then back on water until I drank what I made my goal (which is 128 ounces a day). I now drink 1 cup of black coffee and then drink my 128 ounces of water....some nights I have a cup of decaf tea or 1 extra cup of black coffee. Water is more important to me than what I "thought" was an addiction.

                        OK, Later when I drop of my DD's friend I will stop at Walmart and hope they have it. I live in the sticks so there are no Borders or book stores close by.

                        Question, I know it is important to not live by the scale, so I plan on only weighing in once a week; do I weigh myself first thing in the morning or late afternoon like I did yesterday?

                          I have a huge SuperWalmart nearby, and I have never seen the book there, and I look for it there every few weeks---just to see if they carry it. I see "healthy" cook books and other dieting books, but at MY WALMART, no
                          Dr. Atkins in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 ed.

                          You might want to call ahead to save a trip unless you were going there anyway.

                            Mission, yep you are right they dont have it. I did have to go anyway as I wanted a kitchen scale to be able to weigh my food.
                            I am going to order the book, as I think that will get here sooner than I will find the time to go get it. I didnt think I would need it, but if you guys tell me to read it I will.
                            So far today I am doing pretty well, my problem is I dont think I am eating enough. I will be posting on another thread what I have had today. I am doing well on water, only had 2 cups (huge cups) of coffee, so that for me is impressive. I really want to do induction right, I am afraid now, not having the book, so please bare with me if I ask A LOT OF QUESTIONS until I get it.
