  • Another Newbie

    Hey everyone!
I have decided to try Atkins after a friends suggestion and have about 40 lbs to lose.
I will be taking my before pictures tomorrow and loading up the fridge with all my induction foods.

I really hope that I can stick on this one.. I find that after a month on any program I usually give up as there are not enough results to keep me motivated. I really hope this is different!

      Welcome to the Atkins Board.

To get started, make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy locally of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com – I got a “used” copy recently for less than $5.00 including shipping not long ago.

Make sure you take your measurements and your weight -- you may have weeks where you don't loose any weight on the scale but your measurements go down so it's a good idea to know where you have started from.

Eat a variety of foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html. Make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over --
      http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), daily. Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!

Make sure you get the 2002 edition of the book and read it.

Don't look for a quick fix... or a way to get to goal as fast as possible.

I find that after a month on any program I usually give up as there are not enough results to keep me motivated.
        And does "giving up" help?

I really hope this is different!
It depends how you're measuring your results.

In terms of weight loss, there could be weeks or even months with no weight loss.

Sometimes we lose inches without losing pounds, so pay attention to the way your clothes fit.

However, Atkins is not only about weight loss.

i'm not looking for a quick fix, what i meant by i usually give up is because i'm pretty much starving myself on any other plan, have all the same cravings and could be maintaining my weight eating whatever i want rather than losing weight on a restricted diet.
i've read the book cover to cover

A month is a blimp in your life time. I took me two years to lose my pounds. But I am quite happy. Hope you find something that works for you. Great if it is Atkins. Follow the rules. And hallo in BC
