  • Introduction here

Hi my name is Rob and I am from Cherry Hill NJ. I have to admit I am not on the atkins diet, but I am doing LC. The purpose for my joining is I read some really good information on running long distance and low carb- I wanted to get more info so I joined.

I have been LC since jan 4th and I have lost 18lbs so far. I seem to be at somewhat of a stall at the moment but that may be muscle growth/ water retention , as I drink alot of water daily now.

so far with LC I have been able to do my short runs without fatigue (up to 4 miles) so that is a positive sign. I am working up my mileage because I was not able to run for almost a year from an IT injury.

I ran the Philly marathon November 2008 and gained 25lbs while training because I was told "you have to load up with carbs" I guess I listened and really loaded up!
Recently I found out I am insulin resistant (Metabolic Syndrome) so eating LC is more of a way of life for me now, not a loose weight kind of thing. I hope that I will still be able to do the things I like to do while living this way, and from what I read it doesn't seem like there will be a problem doing it.

So that's me in a nut shell!

    Re: Introduction here

You did a marathon - way to go.
I guess you will have to find a balance between the needs of your exercise and your weight. It is in there somewhere. But yes there are people who do long runs without carb loading at all. Hope things go well

        Welcome to the ADBB, Rob!

Are you still running? That's great exercise and will definitely help you lose weight and keep it off. We have a lot of exercise challenges here on the board so maybe you could check them out. And, of course, there is lots of support and information here. There is a thread for diabetics in the Atkins For Health forum too.

Thanks BlueberryLady I would love to find more running and LC posts- it doesn't seem to be a huge topic round here.
Yes I am still running and possibly considering doing the Philly marathon again this up coming November if my training goes well LC. If not, then I will just run the smaller races that will allow me to run LC.
