Hello, My name is Cameron I'm a 17 year old junior in highschool trying to get to the weight of 160 for sports next year. I have been on the atkins diet since last monday I started at 205 and I am currently 198 which I'm thrilled about because I'm losing over a pound a day =]. Basically I started running about 3-4 miles every day after school with the help of 5 hour energy and I feel great =]. But my dad is also on this diet he has been for about three months and in the first two months he lost 30 pounds. My dad doesn't work out but he stopped losing weight after that 30 pounds. So my question is will it be possible for me to get to 160 without stopping like he did? And also I need some help with foods and drinks that I can consume within this diet since sugar and carbs are no longer possible. Thank you =]

Re: First time Atkins-er
The best thing you can do is get the 2002 Atkins book and read it. It explains everything. Your dad is at an age (as am I) where weight loss requires more exercise on our parts. You are young and active and will not face the same metabolic challenges as a 40 something. That's the good news. Learn to like water and ditch the 5 hour energy drinks. The jolt of caffeine isn't great for you and can increase your appetite. Eat lots of allowed veggies and drink drink drink water. If you go to the Extended Induction forum in the Atkins Phases you will find an allowed list of Induction foods but you need the book to learn what to add after Induction and not mess yourself up. Most people stall out because they don;t move along to the next step and many people have a stall of a few weeks after their initial big loss. Then the body adjusts and they will begin losing again, but exercise is not an option--it is necessary. Hope this helps.
