  • Newbie (again)

I've tried it all. In the past I've lost the most weight on Atkins (9 years ago) so I've decided to try it again. I'm almost at my all time high but really upset that I've gained 8 lbs in 1 month after Christmas! Thinking I'm starting menopause (skipped period), but I know I need to do something now. Also have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic.

I've been looking at before and after pics for goals & motivation. I purchased the Atkins Journal (before I found this thread). I'm hoping I can do this without reading the new book (working two jobs and don't have time for reading).

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Question How do I find the "hidden carb calculator" or does one exist. I think this was my problem in the past. My big problem is I cannot stand any other dressings except Marie's blue cheese and I see zero carbs and I'm wondering if this is right (God, I hope so).

Hoping for a slimmer look on the motocycle this year!

    Welcome to ADBB!

    >>I'm hoping I can do this without reading the new book>>

I've never known anyone to do it without the book. Since time is limited for you right now, check out these links:

Hello, and happy Friday to you all in Low Carb Land. I tried to get away with it, but I just can't do it anymore. I thought I'd do my own modified induction, and I.

As a teacher, this time of year is hard. Two words....spring parties. My sixth grade class asked for a spring party and I happily obliged them. Today I was faced with.

keeping in mind that you really need to find some time for reading the book if you truly want success.

    >>Marie's blue cheese and I see zero carbs and I'm wondering if this is right>>

No, it's not "right". Since blue cheese has carbs, anything made from it can't be 0 carbs.

In the US, if a food has less than 0.5 grams of carbohydrate per serving, the label will generally say 0 grams.

As J. wrote, all cheese has some carbs. Other ingredients in the dressing have carbs, too. As long as the ingredients have carbs, the final product must have carbs, too.

This being said, you can have the dressing during Induction. However, I would count 0.5 net carbs per serving.

Thank you for clearing that up everyone. I will get the book but I didn't want to loose my momentum. (I was using my pre-2002 Atkins knowledge).

I like that hidden carb counter! After putting in the Marie's label information I was at 1.47g for 2 tbs!! That could definately add up quickly. I think that's something I'll have to ween myself off of.

Looking at my diet sodas -- this will be my next challenge. I need to locate caffeine free, made with Splenda, alternative. Luckily, I had managed to remove caffeine from my soda habit 2 years ago, except for fast food due to lack of caffeine-free options. I'm going to start searching but if you have "pepsi" -like alternatives I will gladly listen.

The number is not accurate, because the other numbers on the label are also rounded.

The hidden carb counter will help you see if a food has 15 carbs or 2... but it doesn't tell you if it has 1.5 or 0.5.

Why not give up diet sodas?

                  Re: Newbie (again)

I will try to give up sodas, but it will have to be gradually. Every time I try cold turkey I end up giving up. Instead of buying 2 liters (I drink 1 2 liter a day), I'm planning on cutting back to 1 can in morning and 1 can at night as a treat.

the thought of giving up sweets or chips/dip doesn't bother me nearly as much as giving up my soda. I know it's mental since I"m not addicted to the caffeine any more but it makes it especially hard when water has always upset my stomach.

In fact, I think I'll add it to my mini-goal list to ween myself off of sodas.....hmmm. Hopefully, it will help. AFter all, it is my pacifier. lol

Thanks to everyone for the support and links! I will be checking them out.

I'm having a hard time with the water. I'm getting about 48 oz of pure water but having a hard time without diet coke and drinking much more water. But I figure it's a start.

Are headaches normal? This is my second day and I've had a headache all day (I've been caffeine free for over a year so I know its not withdrawal) and I'm very tired. I feel sort of thirsty but water or soda doesn't satisfy (and I'm drinking more water in one day than I was doing in 1 month before).

Adjusting from glucosis to lipolysis can cause headaches and make you feel tired.

How many net carbs are you eating? How many of them come from vegetables?

Some people prefer cold water... or water at room temperature. Try to figure out how you prefer it and get in at least 2 more 8-oz glasses per day.

Drinking water throughout the day rather than a big glass at a time helps, too.

Just to clarify here... the so-called "Induction flu" does not last for 14 days.
