  • Restarting!

Hi guys, I've done atkins during some time in the past. But I only managed to keep on it for 3 months.

Well, here I am again. Started it 4 days ago and I hope to stay on atkins for my entire life. It will be my lifestyle.

My weight is now 231.5 pounds and my goal is 160 pounds.

And my only question is about whipping cream/heavy cream. I live in Brazil, so I don't really know the equivalent of "creme de leite" in America. Well, it has 0g of carbs and it really helps me on resisting to my cravings. Do I have to do any portion control on that? I ate it frozen and mixed with a powder juice with 0g on it too.

Thanks and sorry about my engish.

    Re: Restarting!

    Welcome to ADBB
Glad to have your here. And super good luck on making this a life style.
One of the things to learn on this life style is to
    READ THE LIST OF INGREDIENTS
this is not a you can eat every thing you want as long as the label says zero carbs. Labels lie. They have very small portion sizes and often are allowed to say zero even if it is not zero. So I am betting your cream has some kind of sugar in it if you read the ingredient list. Read it NOW
The powder juice sounds like a big mess of sugar and chemicals.
    You need real food.

I am a fan of real whipping cream but on induction I stay away from eating it as much as I can and I would certainly try to avoid sweet things and treats.
Your lifestyle will be to include a healthy relationship to food. Where you contol it and it does not control you.

      Re: Restarting!

      Thanks for teh quick reply!

Well, I'm going to read it now. The juice's cover says "Zero sugar" so I thought it was ok.

Thanks for the tip, yesterday I was just thinking of how trustable was the labels. So instead of checking for carb count I should check for carbs + the recipe (if there's any sugar)?

      ---
just checked the label of the juice and apparently is ok. My only concern is that it says 1% of dehydrated polp.

About the heavy cream, should I stay away of it during the induction? There's no sugar on it, I've red the label also.

      thank you very much

        Re: Restarting!

Do you know the other words for sugar - such as dextrose, corn syrup, lactose, etc. etc. All commercial prepared creams here contain corn syrup but it is probably a bit different where you are.
Study the list of ingredients. Many products will say NO SUGAR but still have a sweetener (like honey or syrup) Never trust anything else than the list of ingredients. Also avoid starches - they are as bad as sugars.

Fruit is not allowed on induction. So I would stay away from that for now.

Cream is allowed on induction in small amounts.
What I am just throwing out there is to think about not using foods for comfort and treats. Eat green vegetables, fish and meat and drink water in meals to establish good habits.
Have you had a chance to read the book?

          Re: Restarting!

I've read the old book, the 1972's one. I can't find the new book around here.

I just found the 2001's edition, would that be helpful?

I re-read the juice label and there's absolutly no sugar. It also states No sugar added.
          The sweetner is Sodic Sacarine.

            Re: Restarting!

Good work on reading labels. It is something I have really learned from embracing this lifestyle. Fruits are not allowed so if the product contains fruit int he form of pulp is it out.
Sweeteners in the new system is limited to 3 a day. So be careful.
2001 edition is a lot closer to the one we use here 2002 than the 1972 is but there is still a bit of a difference. Maybe you can get it from amazon.com or something.

Here are some threads in our FAQ that will help you see what the 2002 version is like.
