  • Newbie Saying Hello!

    Hi Everyone,

I have just started the Atkins diet today and so far so good.

I have the book Atkins For Life The Next Level and have been reading it over the last few days and feel this diet could work for me as so much of it makes sense.

Looking forward to getting to know you over the next weeks and months as I have over 100lbs to lose. At the present moment it seems such a hill to climb and I am sick of battling with my weight.

Please wish me luck as I so want this to work for me.

    Thanks,

    Lizzy

    Welcome, Lizzy!

Just so you know, Atkins for Life is a book geared towards those doing maintenance or for those who don't have much (if any) weight to lose.

The book used here, and you really do need it, is Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002).

    Until then:

          Welcome to the Atkins Board.

To get started, make sure you read the correct book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy locally of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) check online at
www.half.com or www.amazon.com – I got a “used” copy recently for less than $5.00 including shipping not long ago.

Eat a variety of foods listed on the acceptable food list
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html. Make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), daily. Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there!
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!

A pound a day is just awesome and very motivating to keep going, well done, you must be very pleased with results like that.

Have you noticed any inch loss as yet?

I felt my tummy growling last night and I drank some water and it helped, I feel very tired today, not sure if everyone feels like this on the second day?

Thank you Carole for all the information and links, I can see I have a lot of reading to do.

Is the reason you take a non-iron multivitamin is because you are eating enough meat already?

Dr Atkins advises in the book to take a non-iron vitamin daily because you should be getting enough iron from the foods you eat....check the veggies for iron content.

If you have problems finding a vitamin without iron check the "senior" vitamins (Certrum Silver or your local brand name version of this type of vitamin)
