  • Hello everyone... My first time here... Help

Hello everyone... I need a lil help... I started atkins last year when I ballooned to 350... I lost 56 and got down to 294... Had a bad break up and went back up to 324... So I started again 11/22/09... As of today 2/1/10 I'm 294(that no clothes with empty stomach)... I'm very impatient though... I've made some mistakes... I didn't read the Atkins book and I figure out the problem after I make the mistake... When I started I was drinking ice tea which was sweetened with aspartame... I ceased taking that... I've been trying to workout very hard and diet... The result of the intensity left me with tendonitis in my quad... I hate having to wait for it to heal... I strained my forearm lifting weights also... Ok so I've decided to so to get help and try to slow down... I want to lose atleast 20 pounds in the next two months... I really think that is reasonable... I know when you lose weight you lose fat and muscle mass... So I need to know what can I do to maintain or even gain muscle while dieting... But I want to avaoid injury... Next my diet... This is what I usually buy... 3 pounds of bacon... 6 cans of spam... 2 dozen eggs... Mayo... Pork Rinds... Potted Meat... Hotsauce... Sardines.... And chicken broth... I get no vegetables at all...
I drink close to a gallon of water a day... Lately I've been eating only bacon... It tastes really good but I went through the whole 3 lbs in 2 1/2 days... Is this to many calories... Should I try to not go over 1800 calories in a day... I've bought supplements... I was taking multi-vitamins but when I used my ketosticks they always showed I was not in ketosis... So I discontinued taking them... I've been taking the supplement ripped fuel for the last few days with slight results... I got a protein supplement also but it contains ACESULFAME AND SUCRALOSE... I think those are ok but do I still count them as carbs... I also have got creatine and a testosterone amplifier... I've heard creatine makes you retain water weight... I'm pretty athletic but I have all this lard on me... It's caused to many problems with injuries... Love life... Self confidence... Someone please help me... I want this fat off me... Any advice would be helpful

    Welcome to ADBB!

    >>I want to lose atleast 20 pounds in the next two months..>>

Whatever the event is in two months will happen anyway. Atkins isn't a quick fix ... for anything.

    >>I didn't read the Atkins book>>

    Have you read it now?

    >>6 cans of spam.>>

Not really a good Atkins food ... especially if you read the ingredients.

    >>I get no vegetables at all...>>

It's not Atkins without the vegetables.

What you're eating right now isn't healthy. You may lose weight, but you're not doing it safely or healthily.

PLEASE read the book if you're going to do Atkins.

It's Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002).

If you won't read the book, at least read:

      >>I know when you lose weight you lose fat and muscle mass.>>

You don't lose muscle mass if you do Atkins properly.

With what you're doing, it is indeed likely that you are losing muscle.

I presume you don't wish to do that.

You will not lose (a lot) of lean body mass as long as you are having an adequate protein intake... as we do on Atkins. With exercise, you will likely gain muscle mass. This does not really depend on your vegetable intake.

However, weight loss is not the only idea behind Atkins. Weight maintenance, good health and disease prevention were considered equally important by Dr. Atkins.

To have a healthy diet that you maintain in the long term, you want to eat vegetables. During Induction, you should eat no more than 20 net carbs daily, and over half of them should come from vegetables from the Acceptable Foods List.

I imagine you don't have the book, so here's the list:

You should also follow the Rules of Induction:

And the links above are not a substitute for the book. You should read the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution.

I was taking multi-vitamins but when I used my ketosticks they always showed I was not in ketosis
Does your multivitamin have sugar added? If not, it's fine to take. Make sure it's iron-free as well.

Ketostix don't always tell you whether or not you are in ketosis. You can be in ketosis without changing their color, because they only measure the concentration of excess acetoacetate (one ketone body) spilled over in urine. They do not measure the concentration of ketone bodies in the blood... which is the direct consequence of lipolysis/ketosis.

I've been taking the supplement ripped fuel
What exactly is that? What does it contain?

Also, keep in mind that Atkins is a high fat diet, not high protein. During Induction, roughly 65% of your daily calories should come from fat.

Wow is a trainer putting you on that program or are you just randomly trying a variety of things. The combo you have does not sound safe at all. You are living on bacon and supplements? If you want to go the body training route to lose weight and build bulk spend the $$ to have a consultation with a certified trainer and do it right.

If you want to do atkins you will need to rethink your whole plan. Go back to basics and don't add things in. Any tweaking can bring your loss to a hault.

Good luck whichever you decide but I wouldn't recommend continuing on the path you are on.

You really need to read the book -- every question you have ask is answered in the book. If you are going to be as successful as possible you need the most information you can get.

Eat a variety of foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html. Make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

              Good luck.
