  • Hello

    Hi everyone,

I have only just discovered this board otherwise I would have signed up yesterday. I am on day 2 of Induction and feeling positive about a new slimmer me, as you can see I have a lot to lose weight wise and a long way to go, but I am determined to get there. I have never done Atkins before but have tried probably every other diet known to man.

I have the DANDR book but for some reason my version(UK) has weights of vegetables not cups? should I weigh my veg or should I use the cup method or wont it matter one weigh <pun intended ;-)> or the other?

I am aiming to drink 4x750ml(3 litres) of water a day which should be fine as I love water. I have been shopping & my house is now completely Atkins Friendly, easy for me as I live alone and only have to please myself!

I managed to find some sugar free mayo in Sainsburys, and some great smoked salmon with no sugar at Aldi, I also bought a couple of tins of paula pumpkin puree from Waitrose. So I am set with all my meat & cheese & eggs...I have to say I felt very odd putting all those things in my trolley, I mean BUTTER & CREAM!

So that's me, I don't plan on weighing myself anymore until Monday February 15th (That's the plan anyway)!

See you around the board ladies & Gents, I will probably ask lots of silly questions!

    Bye for now

      Re: Hello

Hello Deborah, Just choose one method and stick with it. Perhaps others will weigh in with what works for them. Welcome to ADBB!

Actually, the weights in the UK edition of the book are wrong, because the editors transformed that a cup (a measure of volume) to 8 oz (weight) of vegetables. This is not true, because different vegetables have different densities.

What is important is that you eat no more than 20 net carbs and over half of these come from vegetables. Choose a variety of vegetables from both lists (don't eat only lettuce or only spaghetti squash) and spread your net carbs throughout the day to avoid blood sugar spikes.

Also, eat vegetables with some fat and protein.

          Re: Hello

          Hi

Thanks for the replies ladies ;-)

Georgiana......So it's best I just use the cup method for all my veggies, that will make it easier ;-)

Lisa.....to be honest i'm not really after speed,I am just after getting rid of this fat once & for all and after lots of reading this seems to be the most effective and sustainable.

Chinadoll....I will try the cups first as it will definately be easier.

I took some before photos yesterday so when I am brave enough and I think I can see a difference I will post them....Deep breath!!

          Thanks again Ladies

              Hi April

How are you finding it? so far I must say I don't even feel like this will work I mean eating butter & cheese and meat unheard of! seriously though I know it is very early days, but I am not finding it hard eating like this and I am eating so many more veggies now than I probably ever have. I will be anxious to see what the scales and tape measure has to say in 14 days (13 now) time.

              Where are you from April?

              bye for now

                  Re: Hello

Welcome -- if you need any help just let us know.

Make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), daily. Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!
