  • Excited and determined!

    Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this board but I am not new to the Atkins diet. I have been successful at losing weight using Atkins in the past and I plan to be successful this time as well. Previously, I was able to lose 25lbs on the atkins diet in 4 weeks just by merelly extending the induction phase. This is going to be my approach again, however I probably remain in induction a little longer and once I reach my goal begin my OWL.

I have a host of motivations to lose the weight! Most importantly, I want to feel better and I want to be healthier. I also have PCOS and I have found that this diet helps in regulating my body and clears up my complexion...imagine that. Another motivation is my wedding, if the camera is going to add 10lbs, then it is going to do so to a 120lb body...lol!

I'm pettite and I would estimate that I weigh about 190lbs currently. I will be providing true measurements after I purchase a scale. I'm only 5'0 but so if you can imagine the weight must GO! Working in my favor is the fact that I use to lift weight so I'm relatively muscular. I plan to begin a strengh training regime only to help in burning more fat because I know that it isn't necessary while following the Atkins.

My goal weight is 120lbs by June. I think that is completely doable. I will rely on this forum to keep me active and motivate. I really do enjoy reading others posts and more than anything looking at before and after pics.

    Thanks for providing this forum.

          Atkins isn't a quick fix.

          >>reviously, I was able to lose 25lbs on the atkins diet in 4 weeks just by merelly extending the induction phase. This is going to be my approach again, however I probably remain in induction a little longer and once I reach my goal begin my OWL.>>

That's not how Atkins wrote the plan though.

And while you were successful at losing weight in the past, how successful were you at keeping the weight off?

That's what "success" really is with Atkins, after all.

That's why it's not a 'traditional' diet ... you don't go off it when you're done losing ... the long part of the Atkins journey is just beginning.

          >> My goal weight is 120lbs by June. I think that is completely doable.>>

          70 pounds in 120 days?

That's over 1/2 pound a day. Every day.

          And you think that's realistic???

          >>I plan to begin a strengh training regime only to help in burning more fat because I know that it isn't necessary while following the Atkins.>>

          Exercise is non-negotiable with Atkins.

Might I guess that you've not actually read the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

Welcome back to Atkins -- it seems you need to read the book so you understand the plan. You don't stay on induction until you reach goal - that's why you're back now, you didn't learn how to make the plan work for you.

            Good luck.

Yes I have read the book...twice! When I first lost the weight I never excercised. What works for you works for you. Im going to do what is best for me. What has been tried and proven. If you are attempting to give advice I would suggest changing your approach. Thanks but no thanks.

Ive read the book and I am fully aware that you stay in induction phase 2 weeks however, I have found that i lose more weight when I extend it. Thats not why Im back. Im back because I like carbohydrates but they dont agree with me. I absolutely learned how to make the plan work thats why I lost weight but I havent been on it in awhile and the weight came back over time. There are plenty of individuals that remain in induction for extended periods of time and have had tremendous success. Thanks though.

The biggest part of Atkins is learning how to keep the weight off though.

                    There's the mistake, eh?

Which means you went back to your old way of eating instead of doing Atkins Maintenance. That's the wrong way to do Atkins, as per Dr. Atkins himself.

I absolutely learned how to make the plan work thats why I lost weight
The fourth principles behind Atkins: weight loss, weight maintenance, good health, disease prevention.

Without weight maintenance, you're not making the plan "work". You're just using it a tool to lose weight.

I havent been on it in awhile and the weight came back over time
Since you read the book... twice... you do understand that Atkins is a way of eating for life, don't you?

There are plenty of individuals that remain in induction for extended periods of time and have had tremendous success.
It's one thing to remain on Induction for more than 2 weeks and another to stay on Induction until you reach goal.

I've never seen anyone having "tremendous success" by doing what you plan to do.

                        Re: Excited and determined!

dont, mean to put a downer on things ........... but that has been my mistake in the past staying on induction reaching a good weight loss then cheating ...then gaining ...then restarting....its classic yo yo dieting ...doesnt work...you will always gain the fat back....this time for me it is going to be done the correct way...all the rungs ....all the way.....for life .
as i said don,t mean to put a downer on things but what a waste to do induction and lose a lot of weight then pile it all bk on again....then restart.....seems like a waste of time to me and such a shame as you can succeed on induction as you have done in the past . moving up the rungs (for me anyway) should be easier.

                        good luck anyway
