  • Making the switch....

I have been a member of ADBB for many years now, because I have always been curious about it, but never adopted Atkins as a WOE.

Up until about a year ago, I weighed 270 lbs. In the past year, I lost 63 lbs the "traditional" way. Cardio for an hour everyday, and low cal/low fat diet. For a while, that was great. I was losing weight steadily and so excited about it. Then I got completely burnt out. When you are counting every single calorie that goes in your mouth (only 1100 a day), it gets old real fast. Plus the weight was not coming off as fast as it once was.

Then the holidays rolled around. You know the drill - parties, festivities, etc. And I was not nearly as strict as I needed to be. So over the holidays, I gained back 12 pounds of the 63 I had lost.

I have been trying to get back on track with my low calorie, but honestly, I just can't get it back. Last week I was standing in my kitchen and for literally 15 minutes I contemplated whether or not I should put 2 or 3 grilled chicken tenderloins on my salad. I was obsessing over another 80 calories, and it makes me miserable. And again, the weight is not coming off.

The exercise has remained constant, however - I am totally addicted to the way it makes me feel. But even with the daily workouts, my diet has been awful. So.....

I decided that I am going to try this WOE. I really think that my body will respond well to it - I have some hormonal problems, and my doctors have suggested low carb living in the past. I read Jillian Michaels' book Master Your Metabolism, and everything it says about insulin resistance and eating low carb sounds exactly like me.

This morning I weighed in at 220.2. My first goal will be to get back to my pre-holiday weight of 208.

I'm really excited at the prospect of this, and what it may do for me. I can't even imagine not having to count calories & fat, and still losing weight!

As soon as I can figure it out, I will set up an avatar, a ticker, signature, etc.

    I'm excited to be here!

P.S. Before anyone asks, yes, I have read the 2002 copy of DADR!

Good luck on your journey -- to help you along make sure to eat a variety of foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.htmland count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), daily. Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!

                Re: Making the switch....

Thanks for all your responses. Day 1 is over - I am heading to bed. I have to say, it wasn't as bad as I thought. I feel pretty good.

I take a multivitamin & two calcium capsules daily, and I drink anywhere from 100-120 oz. of water per day, so I'm doing pretty good on that end.

I am definitely going to look into starting a journal. I have always kind of wanted to start a weight loss blog, so maybe this will be a way for me to ease into it.

                Again, thanks for everything!
