  • Hey Hey, another new Atkinteer

    Hi everyone,

I have been reading this forum for the past 3 weeks, its been so helpful to me, thanks to all those who put in the effort to support others in their trip down the slim road. I normally just have a nosey myself, but today I thought, it was time i joined up. Perhaps I can help others in the future.

I am only on atkins 17 days now, after years (and I mean years) of my mum telling me it was amazing. I was a weight watchers fan throughout that time. The only down side to WW is feeling hungry occasionally, and I never have that anymore on Atkins, so heres to Mr Atkin. I have always sworn by Dr Atkins books on vitamins and minerals supliments, he was a genius, so I am surprised its taken so long to get round to this way of eating. I have a wedding to attend on 16th March and thats been the kick up the bum I needed, i think.

Please be patient with me as I have no idea what your abbreivations mean, well only a handful.

    My start weight: 176.5lbs
    My current weight: 169.5lbs
    Goal: 147!

    5foot 6 and 35 years old

the "I just had a baby", is not working anymore, as my daughter is 14 YEARS old now. hahaha

I do have a question, if anyone can help? Should I use extra virgin olive oil in cooking? or is there a better one?

I lost 7lbs in 6 days then nothing, nada, not a thing in the past 11 days. Measured myself and its EXACTLY the same the past 11 days.
Ketostix saying I am in Ketosis, but no inch or weight loss. Drinking heaps of water, eating foods, by the book. checked and rechecked amounts to eat in this forum and in Atkins book and its all in place. Doing everything correctly. the oil is the only thing I can think of. Any ideas? ( i did have atkins bars last week, but decided to stay away even though they say all phases)

Started extended induction 3 days ago, afraid to increase carbs just yet

    Thanks a million in advance

Sorry this is soooo long (you can tell I am yappy chatter woman!)

Re: Hey Hey, another new Atkinteer

It sounds like you are doing real well so far -- the bars and shakes may say they are ok for all phases but that's the Atkins company is trying to make money the ingredients don't support the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, which is what we follow here. That may have been the reason you didn't loose any weight last week.

Olive Oil is a good oil and is suggested - Atkins is high fat so you need to use oils and fats in your food. I use olive oil, butter, bacon grease and Smart Balance Oil to flavor and cook in. I also eat avocado as another good fat. You may not be getting enough fat in your menu and that is stopping you from not loosing.

OWL Rung 1 is adding an additional 5 net carbs of vegetables -- nothing to fear and actually many people, including myself, didn't do well on extended induction but once I move on my weight started to move again. You need to move on sometime - there is nothing to fear - you don't have that much more to loose -- I'd move on and slowly move up the rungs. Just stay away from anything that isn't on the acceptable food list. Eat a variety of foods on this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html so you don't get bored and your body doesn't get use to eating the same thing everyday.

If you aren't drinking the minimum 64 ounces of pure water add more -- many people drink half their weight in water daily. Is there anything else you are drinking? Soda, coffee, tea?

    Good luck to you.
    Carole

Re: Hey Hey, another new Atkinteer

      Hi Carole,

Thanks a million for your advice. I am drinking approx 4 herbal teas per day, peppermint, camomile, a fruit flavoured (maybe that has made a difference) they are all 0.3 carbs each cup. The only other liquid I am drinking is water (i cut out alcohol, coffee, tea, soda totally)I drink between 80 -100 ounces per day, usually more. I have always loved water.

I normally have between 14 - 17 carbs per day, have never reached 20. will up my veg and salad intake and see how I get on, thanks so much for getting back to me.

      Cheers
