  • Trying to be fit for the first time in my life....

    Hello!

I am 33 and I have been overweight my whole life. My husband is 34 and has been overweight since his early twenties. I haven't had any serious health issues because of my weight but my husband is diabetic and has hypertension.

I started out at 205 and my poor husband is near 400 pounds. We are in the induction phase right now.

So far I really love this way of eating. I'm much less hungry and I'm just really hoping this works. I have tried so many other diets and could only ever manage to drop maybe 10 pounds or so. I want to wear a single digit size some time this year.

Probably my biggest concern is that we are going to ireland this year. Which is where my husband is from and just about everything there is battered and deep fried. So if anyone here is from ireland or the uk I would love tips on how you do atkins there. Thanks!

I've yet to go to Ireland, but I have traveled in England.

While I did find some battered and deep fried menu items, lots of places had fresh foods ... so I ordered them.

        welcome to ADBB.

when you go ask your hotel about places that serve foods that are not fried. My sister's family went to Ireland back in 2006 and they bought foods at local markets and fixed picnics for their outings.

            Welcome to our board.
When I went to Ireland I was a teen. Food cannot have been high on my list of priorities back then - I do not remember anything about eating in Ireland. But I had a lot of fun.

Re: Trying to be fit for the first time in my life....

Welcome to both of you -- I wouldn't worry about Ireland until it gets closer to going - then the suggestions you've been given above are great! Right now, focus on getting through induction and moving up the rungs - to a healthier and happier life.

Eat a variety of foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html. Make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), daily. Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

Make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy locally of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com – I got a “used” copy recently for less than $5.00 including shipping not long ago.

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!
