  • Induction Discomforts...

Hi I'm Debbie, just finished my first two weeks on Induction Phase but plan to stay on this phase another two weeks.

Just some comments about some symptoms of the Induction Phase.

Noticed that the muscles in my arms and back started to ache. I read that this is because of the lactic acid that is being released as my body switches to burning fat instead of carbs for energy. When I was working out at the gym they told me that lactic acid builds up after a work out and that is why your muscles feel so sore the next day, so I guess the achy feeling in the Induction Phase is similiar. Stretching those muscles will help to squeeze the lactic acid out of the muscles (at least that is what I was told at the gym) so I am trying to remember to stretch my arms and back several times a day.

I do get out of breath when I walk upstairs which I guess has something to do with the ketones in my lungs maybe? (The same ketones that cause the bad breath I guess). I am trying to remember to drink more water.

Other than those two discomforts I feel fine, no headaches and no digestion problems.

This website and bulletin board are wonderful! So glad to be here!

Morning Debbie, or I guess it's afternoon for you.

Glad you found us and joined. The flu symptoms should go away by now, but your right, it very well could be the problem

I had pretty bad muscle pain during induction - I ached from my knees up to my ribs. It lasted over a week if I remember correctly, but it did pass, and I feel like a million bucks now! (Looking forward to feeling like a billion bucks at goal)

      Welcome to the boards!

You don't have a lot left to lose - have you considered moving to OWL now? Don't forget that you need a week to add each food on each rung, and weight loss slows considerably closer to goal - so it is more difficult to tell if it is the new foods affecting weight loss or the proximity to goal weight. Just something to think about

      Best wishes,

You need AT LEAST a week on each rung...there is more than 1 food item on each rung so to know which foods you'll be able to add back into your daily food and which ones you need to avoid or only eat on occassion. The rungs should be moved up slowly.

Make sure you are drinking the MINIMUM of 64 ounces pure water daily... besides being a mandatory part of Atkins (read the book) it will keep your body functioning properly.

I haven't heard anyone else talk about being out of breath because of keotones in your lungs .... were you short of breath before Atkins when you went up stairs? If your muscles ache take a pain releaver for it -- there's no reason to be in pain or hungry on this plan.

        Good luck to you.
