  • Another newbie, doing the usual introduction

Hi everyone! Started Atkins January 15th and lost 17 lbs. the first two weeks, but then gained 5 lbs. back the 3rd week as I was dehydrated and my body overreacted and really packed on the water. I'm pretty water-logged right now (puffy eyes, puffy fingers etc.) and my body is just trying to figure things out. I'm just sticking with the program, exercising and drinking tons of water and letting my body figure things out.

Anyway I lost one of those five pounds so maybe by the end of February I will be able to say once again I have lost 17 lbs.

I have 28 pounds (as of today) to lose and I hope to lose those pounds by next Christmas. I'm 48 years old, 5'5" and I know at this age, it's harder for me to lose weight and I need to be very patient.

I plan on just eating in a healthy way, exercising, drinking water, and it may take me more than one year, but I'm certain I will reach a good healthy weight for me.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome, Julie! What an inspiration you are! You are so beautiful in your photos, and they really show a dramatic transition to a healthier, happier new you!

P.S. I'm such a dummy with computers. As you can see, I can't figure out how to make my ticker show up right. I wonder, is there a thread posted where I could learn how to do it right?

Grea job Lori!!! I am 30 and have struggled with a severly slowing metabolism after the age of 25 or 26 and a multi-month run of prednisone for an ailment I had, so I can relate to not being able to lose as quickly as some of the younger people!! Youre attitude is great and by admitting you may take longer to reach your final goal will make you more likely to reach it in the end!!!

            Hi Lori --

You have a good mindset to begin - have you read the book? We follow the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) on this site. Make sure you eat a variety of foods and vegetables and count all “net carbs”. Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

            Good luck to you!!
            Carole

Hi, Carole, thank you so much! Yup, that's the book I have actually Along with the New Diet Cookbook, Atkins for Life and Atkins Essentials. Really interesting reading and it sure makes sense to me! I feel so much better on this WOE that I can't imagine ever wanting to go back to my old WOE with tons of simple carbs.
