  • Brand new!

Hi everyone, my name's Erik, and I'm doing Atkins for the first time ever. Almost done reading the book, and found this site through many of my google searches of questions and decided to become a member.

Can't wait to meet all of you and talk with you all. I'm 23, 6'3" and weigh about 370lbs. Started Atkins 5 days ago and was at 377, so its working so far, but I have quite a bit to lose. I hope Atkins pays off for me, because I've tried everything else it seems like and I need to get my health under control now before something bad happens.

    Good luck to everyone!

      Welcome to ADBB Eric
I hope Atkins pays off for me
The plan works if you follow it and do not play with it to satisfy your cravings. I may be wrong, but I figure Dr.A put a lot of time and research into this, so I figure he might know better than some others.

Come to the site often, get involved in some of the challenges (exercise, water) if it helps, and feel free to ask questions. Good job on reading the book first and best wishes on your journey.

Thanks everyone. I'll tell you, its hard. The first few days were great and easy, now im just starting to get sick of the same foods. I need to keep looking for new stuff, because I was such a picky eater before Atkins.

Maybe try something new once a day or week. Try something you've never had before. You may end up loving it!

              Good luck!

Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything in your home. Check Linda's recipe site - it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html. I rarely eat the same thing more than once a week and if I do it's because I want - not because I have to. Find 2 or 3 recipes and make them ahead, freeze or keep them in your fridge for later meals. Make sure you have a variety of vegetables from both lists to eat - most of your net carbs should be coming from vegetables.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), daily. A journal is a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people – you can start one here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/.

OO, don't eat the same old foods, cause boredom could cause you to give it up. Do you cook?

Most of the recipes on Linda's site are easy to prepare but have great taste. You'll be a much better cook in a few months thanks to your new eating plan!

Have fun and good luck again.
