Hello - I'm in my mid 40's. I was always very slim and healthy until I was diagnosed with ovaraian cancer about seven years ago. I was put on hormone therapy and gained 63 lbs in just over three months, immediately after surgery. I only stayed on hrt for a year. I have never lost that weight, though I have tried very hard. My eating habits never changed, except that I actually eat less now and still the weight won't come off.
My husband recently went to the doctor. The doctor told my husband he had to try Atkins because he had very high blood sugar. If he is successful and can get his blood sugar down along with some weight off his middle (the rest of him is fantastically fit!!) he may be able to avoid medication. My gyn oncologist wants me to lose weight too. So, my husband and I are doing this as a team effort!
We started this diet yesterday. I have been semi successful on another diet. I did gain the weight back. This goes against every diet I have ever known, but I'm giving it my best shot.
I hope this forum helps me be successful, by way of information, and connect with people that can help us along the way.

He was certainly encouraging, but never really on the low-fat/low calorie band wagon. I abandoned each - success was virtually impossible without a committed support system.
