  • Farley reporting...

Hey there all, I've been on the atkins diet for about 6 weeks. I feel fantastic, and I'm loosing pounds and inches at an unbelieveable rate! I'm completely thrilled with the will power I've had, especially during my extended induction phase. I'm drinking about 96 oz of water each day, and I'm finally below 200 lbs. I had about a one week semi-stall where I lost inches, but no weight (which is fine). I am pretty active, playing soccer and hockey once a week, and squash when I can find time.

I have a very addictive personality so I found it easy to latch onto this diet and stick with it. I'm finding more and more foods that I can have, and discovering foods that I can't have (popcorn stall).

My diet consists of water, eggs, and turkey bacon for breakfast.
Natural unsalted almonds and water for 2nd breakfast.
Cheese/chicken green salad & healthy vegtable soup for lunch.
Water & cucumber/carrots for snack. Sometimes an apple if my carbs are low that day.
Supper is always different, but generally includes a medium portion of fish, poultry, pork, or beef, *some* condiment -- vegtables & skim milk or diet cranberry juice.

    Welcome to ADBB!

Are you reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

I'm amazed at you being on Rung 5 in 6 weeks.

As you know from your reading of Chapter 14, apples aren't appropriate before rung 7, and carrots aren't appropriate until rung 8. Popcorn, since it's a grain, wouldn't come back until rung 9 ... which is for many, premaintenance. Most of the later rungs of OWL are premaintenance, actually.

You've only got about 5 pounds until premaintenance ... maybe you want to refigure what rung of OWL you're on ... then you won't be eating "out of order"!

        Re: Farley reporting...

I had been adding foods out of order. I hadn't done enough reading or research on OWL rungs until I was well past an extended induction. Now that I'm looking more and more into these phases of the diet, I can see where I had gone wrong. I joined the forum to better educate myself via the experiences of the boards members on the intricacies of the diet. I have not read the book, and I only realized that inwas actually on the Atkins diet about three weeks in. I had hashed out a diet plan with the help of a close friend. While researching low carb, high protien diets, it became evident that I was following the basic premise of the Atkins diet induction phase. It was at that point that I started adding foods to my diet.
I'm flying by the seat of my pants so to speak.

          When are you going to?

Are you going to continue that way?

Well those are really great stats for flying by the seat of your pants. Welcome. I hope that you feel supported here and get lots of good ideas to make it the rest of the way to goal. Check out your local thrift shops to find the book. I have gotten several copies that way for about 0.50 cents a pop.
