  • Another newbie 'Hello'

Just a quick hello to all.

I decided NYE that 2010 was going to be MY year of weight loss...and that I'd set myself a target of 3 kilos a month for the year. NOT undo-able! Halfway through January and on a low cal/low fat diet, a g/f mentioned a low carb diet to me. Now call me daft...but in all my (many) years of fighting the calories, I'd never actually explored the Atkins theory.

    SO

    Here I am.

I'm on day 13 of the Induction Phase, and down 4.6 kilos. That's despite spending all of January on that typical low cal/low fat diet (lost 3.4). I had a bit of a setback on today's weigh in..gained .3 of a kilo. I'm putting that down to eating almonds yesterday (probably around 15 of them). Must have had a mental blank cos i forgot I wasn't meant to eat them at ALL!! I also had a very dizzy light headed day yesterday too...so upped my food intake a little. AND I had a day off the 40 minute walk and my 30 minute battle with the WII Just Dance!

Anyways..I'm still in ketosis and still focused. Looking forward to reading all the information here and meeting some of you like minded people.

    Cheers!!

I'm reading Atkins, but offhand, not sure which version. Left the book with a g/f overnight so will let you know which edition tomorrow. Is there THAT much difference between them all?

                Re: Another newbie 'Hello'

Awaiting arrival of the 2002 Atkins.
                Meanwhile.
Lost a total of 3.7 kilos (8 pounds) during the two week induction.
                Week 3 ...didn't lose a thing...but....on the bright side, didn't GAIN a thing either!
So. Maybe I got a tad 'loose' with my vegetable servings..perhaps I am the kind that cannot eat too many. OR. Did I suck on too many (0 carb) mints as i have read here that the artificial sweeteners in them can play havoc with some ppl. I haven't cheated in any way...nor over eaten, and i am still in ketosis.

SO. This week (4) the focus is on back to being more careful with the veggie servings and no more mints (poor hubby lol). Speaking of who...hugged me yesterday and said I felt skinnier,...and then said "Don't go fading away on me" HA, fat chance!!!!

Which i guess is another option in the 'no loss week'. Perhaps I lost inches and gained lean muscle.

Is there any other reasons why I didn't lose?

Must mention that I'm really enjoying reading all the info on here, and I appreciate all the knowledgeable input on a totally new way of living (for me).

                Cheers

                  Re: Another newbie 'Hello'

ya them 0 carb mints are most likely causeing problems

also even if it says 0 carbs it does not always mean its 0 carbs it just could be low enough to by law not have to list them

so for example 2 mints could be 1 carb even if 1 mint on the package says 0

also some people absorb up to half of the sugar alcohals and that can be really bad so you should avoid them also they hurt your gut them sugar alcohals xD

A fair number of folks see a substantial slow down sometime in weeks 3-6 as their bodies recalibrate so don't worry about it---just wait it out. Welcome to ADBB.
