  • Hi Everyone

I have never done a forum before so I am struggling through this with the help of my son who is more computer savy then me.

I have been heavy all my life I was so heavy in 3rd grade that I had more pounds to lose then my teacher.

I have been on the Atkins diet for 18 months. I have lost 50 pounds very slowly. I have 70 more pounds to go. I get very discourage sometimes because it is so slow.
I am dealing with menopause a ruptured thyroid gland and type 2 diabetics.
So I guess I should be happy I have lost anything. I really love the Atkins diet it fits so well with the foods I love. I wish I had found this diet years ago.
I have brought my diabetic readings down from over 400 to 90-100 which is much better. I know I feel better. That is what makes me keep going.I have been married for 44 years. I have a patient husband who has been waiting for his wife to come of her fat suit.

I have good days as well as bad. MY weakness is potatoes in any form. But I have done well not going whole hog when I cook them for my family.
I make myself mock mash potatoes which I love, I could over due them as well. I am a grandma with number 2 to arrive any day know really excited about that.

Hi Reta, I understand your frustration-- I am in the same boat. I have lost about 60 and have seesawes the past year or so and just cant stay motivated when my losses from here on out seem sooo slow. But I try to focus on how much better I FEEL on Atkins and keep active and count my blessings. Welcome to ADBB!

Hi Reta and nice son who is helping you. This was my first forum years ago and I didn't have a clue what a lot of the terminology meant. You will learn quickly and enjoy it Ask son to help you put up a ticker like Chinadoll has on the bottom. You can have weight loss or pounds and it's fun to track.

Reta, welcome to the board! There is a wealth of information here and loads of motivation! There are many, many posters who have similar struggles and issues as you. One poster, IrishIrish, comes to mind and has worked, through many health issues to lose several hundred pounds over the past 6 years and very slowly at that (check out some of her posts). Stick with it, the plan works. Determinatio will always prevail.

        Best of luck to you.

          Re: Hi Everyone

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Why does it take such a little time to put the weight on but to lose it ,it takes forever. lol I am going to stick with it no matter how long it takes because I feel so much better on this diet. I do miss homemade bread and homemade noodles. I use to really enjoy them to much ,that is why I had over a 100 pounds to lose.

Hi Reta -- we are in the same boat pretty much....I'm also over 50, Type 2, I'm pretty sure I'm menopausal and have struggled with slow weight loss over the past year...although you've done better than I have with loosing! You will read younger people and especially men who seem to sneeze and loose 8 - 10 pounds...well unfortunatelly, that's not the way it happens for us!

There is a small group of ladies who are over 50 (men are welcome, we just have never gotten any to join us) who try to support each other and we'd love to have you join us if you'd like to. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...me-say-hi.html. Also you can start a journal to get your thoughts, feelings or whatever you want down for yourself and others to read....you'll find many new friends there also! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/

Hope to see more of you around as there is less of you!!
