  • Hello. Planning on starting this way of life soon.

New here, hello. My name is Ben and am 31 years old.

Ok, so I've lost a good 60lbs before with the "traditional" style of eating low calories/fat with the combination of exercise.

I kept up with it for several years and maintained but I pretty much fell off the wagon about 3 years ago and been gaining weight at a brisk pace since. Weighed about 170 and now weigh around 227.

I have wanted to start up the routine again but I have a slight injury to my foot which flares up really bad if I exercise on it. (I may need surgery on it)

Anyway I was talking with a co-worker who did Atkins and has been doing it since around 2003. He lost 80+ pounds and has kept it off this whole time. Recently I was telling him about wanting to lose wight again. He never knew me when I was in good shape and I never knew him when he was out of shape. He started getting into details about this diet and I got interested. I was one of those that thought "this low carb thing can't be healthy." Now I'm starting to see something in it.

Sooo.. right now I'm gathering info, gonna look into the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, figure out what exactly I need to do to get started and then I'll start. Hopefully in the next few days.

My best advise is to go to the store, read labels, check out carb counts, plan for emergencies and enjoy.

        Thanks.

I'd like to read the DANDR induction chapters and did order the book off amazon yesterday. Is there somewhere on here that I can read that section without having to wait for the actual book?

Welcome Ben! Yes this is a very healthy way of eating, my BP went from 138/96 to 124/72, my cholesterol went from 198 to 174, but most importantly my triglycerides went from 323 all the way down to 88. The numbers speak for themselves. You can't get much healthier than that, never mind the 76 pound weight loss that went with those numbers. But alas I too fell of but am back with a vengeance.

As far as induction this will give you many links to your questions:

Good luck to you -- remember, VEGETABLES and VARIETY!!! Don't eat the same thing over and over, nothing will sabotage you faster than not eating a variety of food or enough food. Also make sure you drink at least the minimum of pure water daily -- 64 ounces.....nothing added!
