  • Slow but steady

This is not my first time doing Atkins but it is the first time I'm doing it myself. My mother first put me on Atkins when I was thirteen, we were successful but I wasn't old enough to be personally dedicated and quickly gained it all back and more.
I am 17 years old I weighed 272 when I weighed myself at the beginning of the induction Jan 8th 2010. I'm 5' 2" and plan to weigh 160 by the end Jan 8th 2011.
So far I've had successful three week induction, losing 13.5 pounds by Feb 1st. i've been on phase 2 for 14 days and I think that's where I want to stay for the rest of my life.
I knew this was going to to stick when during the superbowl party I went to I didn't even have that 'just one cookie' and its been easy to pass up sugar ever since.
Now I just want to know, after the initial 10% you are supposed to lose during a successful induction what rate should I be losing at?
Is 6-9 pounds a month an average loss rate? I'm drinking planty of water, no sodas, increasing my exercise and sticking strictly to the diet.
    What should I expect?

WOW, Monique Your doing awesome!!! Glad you found us and joined.

6 to 9 pounds a month is pretty do'able, we all lose at different rates, and very often you might not lose on week one and then on week 3 you might lose 5 pounds. Others are steady losers and keep up that 2 pounds a week clip. Sometimes we lose inches and the pounds stick around so we recommend that you take your measurements now so you can keep track of that also. (I pair of tight jeans also works well) So while your goal is 160 pounds, wouldn't a size 10 be just as awesome???

    41 pounds down and counting

I have thought about measurements but I have trouble deciding if I'm measuring myself correctly or not and i'm too embarrassed to ask my mother.
I do have a dress from 8th grade size 18 for my first mini goal and pair of 15 jeans for my 2nd mini-goal right now.
I know its bad for my phsyche but I'm addicted to the scale and weight myself every few days. Like some sort of crazy habit to encourage myself that A0 I'm doing good or B) I have to work harder. XP

Welcome -- the best thing you can do is put the scales away and just concentrate on your food, water and exercise daily. Your weight will vary from day to day - week to week, even hour to hour....Dr Atkins said to weigh at the end of your 2 week induction. I do much better when the scales are put away and I get them out once every over week or once a month -- I've learned to not depend on the number the scale says but on listening to what my body is telling me by following Atkins.

Good luck to you -- I hope you make your goal in the timeframe you've put up for yourself...just remember however much you loose between now and your goal date you will be healthier and hopefully lighter.

          Re: Slow but steady

I think 6-9lbs a month is a very reasonable expectation. That's only around 2lbs a week. Now you may have weeks where you don't lose but I think averaged out that's a good goal. Especially if you don't get frustrated on slow weeks.

I am hoping for 10lbs a month for the next 3 months. I know realistically that probably won't happen but it doesn't hurt to hope high. Whatever I lose is fine by me. I'm in it for the long run.

Oh and so there's no confusion. Yes my ticker shows less to goal then the 30lbs I'd like to lose over the next 3 months but I'll probably have to lose another 10-15 past that 125 since I'm so short. I'll reevaluate when I get there.

Actually if I look the way I'd like to and feel the way I'd like to I think my actual weight won't matter. It helps me keep my will power to have a goal though. Like a sort of 'hey you haven't reached # yet so wait till then to have a reward'
XD Thanks For the replies! and I hope you reach your goals as well!!
