  • Just wanted to introduce myself

Good morning everyone! I'm so glad I found this site. I have been browsing around this site (and a few other LC sites) and this site is huge! There is so much information on here, I don't even know where to begin.
I am reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution again. Although, I like reading about what works for some, what doesn't for others and when, where, why and how to tweak LC eating. I like the "experience" of those on here. I'm learning quite a bit.

I have 13 lbs. to lose, and it's very frustrating, because first of all, I am such a slow loser. I've lost 4 lbs so far, and I'm not a very patient person, but for some reason, this way of eating, how I'm continuing working on the LC lifestyle, seems to fit. Other diets (and I realize this isn't just another diet, but ongoing woe), but other diets, came and went within a week or so.
I've been on induction for about 6 weeks, and apparently I wasn't doing it 100% correctly or I think I would have lost more than 4 crappy lbs. I keep telling myself, that at least I didn't GAIN 4 lbs. So, for the last six days, I've been really strict and really focused on doing it right.
I can't wait to go browse around some more and learn more from those who have the experience.
    See ya' around.

    Welcome!

With only 13 pounds to lose, losing 4 on Induction certainly isn't "crappy". A great rate of loss is 10% of what you need to lose, so you more than exceeded that.

I would urge you to move to OWL though, since you should be on pre-maintenance with 5 pounds until your goal.

6 weeks on Induction is mostly likely about 4 weeks too long for you.

6 weeks seemed too long, for only losing 4 lbs. I believe it's because I wasn't correctly doing the Induction, which is why I began it again, but this time correctly.
I am afraid to start adding carbs. I know to add carbs from veggies, about 5 g. a day for at least a good week, some I've read go two weeks only adding 5 g. because this way, they're more sure of what might cause a stall, or might not work. It's easier to pin point. I really am nervous about introducing carbs at this point. I wanted to be within 5 lbs (at least) of my goal weight before adding carbs. I'm still reading the book, I lent mine out so long ago, I had to order another one. I'm so glad I did, because I didn't remember some of the smaller (still as important) details.
      Thank you for the Welcome.

        >>I know to add carbs from veggies, about 5 g. a day for at least a good week,>>

Um ... that's not correct at all. If one is eating most of one's net carbs from Induction vegetables, then that's about 12-15 net carbs from vegetables.

Are you reading the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution?

        >>6 weeks seemed too long, for only losing 4 lbs.>>

Did you see the post above???

"With only 13 pounds to lose, losing 4 on Induction certainly isn't "crappy". A great rate of loss is 10% of what you need to lose, so you more than exceeded that."

If you had lost 2 pounds, that would have been "great" ... you lose twice as much.

        >> I wanted to be within 5 lbs (at least) of my goal weight before adding carbs.>>

That's not how Atkins works though.

        That's also how people fail.

Re: Just wanted to introduce myself

Yes, I am reading that book. I just got it in the mail on Saturday and still am highlighting, making notes. I'm not saying the additional carbs that I would ad from veggies, be the same ol' veggies I've been eating on Induction, but continuing them, but adding another veggie, one isn't part of induction. I am too afraid right now to introduce something (veggie) for only one week. I'm more on a time line and wishing it were faster, since I'm going to CA in 12 days. That's where my impatients is coming in, more than normal. I understand Atkins doesn't work that way. I'm still learning as I go and right now, I don't want to make any mistakes. I did early on, which is why I went back and began again. It's all still new to me, and adding certain things to up the carbs a bit, I need to wrap my mind around that and in the book, I'm sure, will explain better and help me understand. It's still a learning process for me and I'm the type, I need to understand and feel comfortable before moving forward, with a lot of things. Maybe this is a me controling me at the time being, but like anything and everything, it's a learning process and I'm still learning and re-reading to understand.
I was frustrated about what I consider the small weight loss, when I read so many posts of how many people lose much more in 14 days of induction, not 6 weeks.

            Welcome --

You don't have much to loose so it won't fall off in a week or even a couple weeks. The way the plan is written is 2 weeks of induction then on to OWL and adding food back. Many people loose better when they start adding additional food back to their daily meals -- I know it helped me to do that. It won't do any good to be afraid of vegetables or the other foods - all it does is give you more variety. Also, each rung isn't written in stone that it's 1 weeks -- there are so many different foods on each rung and you need time to figure out which ones you can eat without problem and which ones you need to avoid.

Remember to count net carbs not carbs.....net carbs are carb minus fiber equal net carbs.

Atkins isn't a quick fix to loose a few pounds - it's a lifestyle - a way of eating over your lifetime. Follow the plan the way it's written, you'll do fine.

The folks that lost 14 and 20 pounds had much more to lose, You generally lose about 10 percent of what you want to lose during induction and then one/two pounds a week there after, so your right on track.
