  • On the hard road, but determined.

Been on the Atkins since Jan 7, 2010. Still going strong. Had a few slips in the middle of the night, but have since purged the kitchen after the second slip.

Over the last 8 years I have been comfortable. Way comfortable. Just went through a change in lifestyle, and figured wasn't a better time to start loosing weight.

As I gained weight over the years, I got used to the chubby jokes. Then got to the point of accepting my weight, and would crack fat guy jokes myself. And then continued the weight gain. I maxed out at 356lbs during Christmas. Bending over to tie my shoes got increasingly difficult and getting around in general took more effort. Then it started to compounding. The fatter I got, the less I wanted to move around, meaning getting even fatter faster.

I am down 24lbs and remain highly motivated. I have found that my motivation is my wife and son. I want to be around for a long time for them both. Yeah, I'm only 32, but at my rate, I wouldn't be around to much longer.

Something that has worked very well for me is making short term goals and seeing if I can meet them. It helped me quit smoking and has helped me so far with the diet.

So, congrats to those who have been successful and good luck to those who have just started.

That's a long time to be away from home. Be safe.
