  • Hi from the UK

Hello there, I'm Loz and I'm just starting my second week of induction - lost 6lb so far! I've done Atkins in the past but usually give up because I start craving apples and oranges etc! This time I'm planning to stick with it because I need to lose weight to get rid of arthritis type pains in my back and legs. Getting old I'm afraid (well only 47 actually but sometimes feel 80+).
I stumbled across this site looking for ideas for legal snack treats to stop the boredom of snacking on cheese, chicken and eggs! It's hard in the UK because we don't have easy access to the bake mixes and that sort of thing. Still - I'm not giving up just because of that!
Any nice snack recipes / encouragement or just 'hello's' would be gratefully accepted!
    Best wishes to you all

Apples and oranges are perfectly acceptable in OWL Rung 7 (fruits rung).

Did you move to OWL in your previous attempts?

You are eating vegetables, right? You can snack on veggies, too.

    It's hard in the UK
If you only eat "real" food, not processed "stuff", then I think it's just as hard in the UK as it is anywhere else.

we don't have easy access to the bake mixes
Bake mixes are not appropriate for Induction anyway. When you get to the higher OWL rungs, you can make your own mixes.

    that sort of thing
What else are you looking for?

    Any nice snack recipes

Welcome to the ADBB, Lox! And congrats on your loss so far! That's a great start!

As for snacks, I like celery with cream cheese or dipped in salsa, cauliflower dipped in ranch or Italian dressing, and lots of times, a cup of chicken or beef broth satisfies any craving I have. And there are lots of other ideas, so just look around the board for other posts on the subject.

        Welcome --

Eat foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html, eating a variety of foods and vegetables will hold off the cravings and cut down on snacking....drink a glass of water if you want to snack - most times your body is craving water, not food because it's dehydrated. Count all “net carbs” (carb minus fiber equal net carbs) and make sure you stay under 20 for the day.

Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything legal in your home. Linda's recipe site is very helpful with delicious recipes - it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), daily. If you need anything we try to help each other here as much as possible.

          Hi
I'm too from the UK and just joined. I too have arthritis - osteoarthritis, I too feel 80 most of the time, though I'm only just coming up to 44 in 9 days time!
I am in my first week still and am due for my first weigh in on Monday morning, though I feel I have definately lost.
My husband is also doing this and could resist weighing himself this morning on day 5 and has lost 5.5lbs, a pound a day! I hoping for good results too.
Our favourite is sugerfree jelly mixed with a pot of fromage frais and let them set and you can have them for pud or an in between, I make 12 at a time so they last about 4 days between the two of us.
We also have pork scratchings (free carbs) or 40gms of peanuts (1.6 carbs).
I also have boiled eggs and chicken drumsticks/wings/thighs cooked and put in the fridge to pick at. There is also a slice of ham with grated cheese inside and put in the microwave for about 30 secs and thats also really nice.
          Best of luck
          Jules

                It's still not allowed.

Are you reading the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

Induction is about more than just staying at 20 net carbs per day. It's not a free for all eating.

There's a whole list of "acceptable" foods:

                and there's rules:

                    Hi Jules,

I'm from the UK too I know you have been picked up on your peanuts ( bad bad bad bad evil little things LOL) but also Fromage Frais isn't induction freindly either and the sugar free jello wont help you get rid of sweet cravings. Try just good natural unprocessed food much better for you in the long run! good luck with your weight loss keep us all posted.

Ok thanks all, will stay away from peanuts and framage frais.
Its just that I used them the last time I was on the atkins diet years ago and lost 4 stone?
Will have to see what the weigh in says on Monday.
                      Kindest regards

How much did you keep off?

They weren't legal on Induction then, either.

I know it's hard to give up those snacks we love but it's only temporary because you can add them back in, in moderation, on rung 3. So give them up for a while and maybe you won't even want them anymore later on. That's what happened to me.

                            Hi,
I lost the weight about 8 years ago, kept it off for a good 4 years, and then in the past 4 years my mobility has been rubbish due to continuous operations on my knees, ending in total knee replacements, I have had 16 operations in the past 9 years. I also gave up smoking 10 months ago and so have piled it all back on plus some.
I am determined to loose it all again, I did it before and will again, it ma.y take me longer this time as my mobility is still very low, but I will try to reach my goal.
I will stay off the peanuts, I do not have them as the norm, but had them last time, so was going to this time, but I've only had them today and will not have them again as with the jelly and framage frais.
I think after a while on the atkins last time, I just used foods that were low in carbs in general and it did work for me, I need to be strict this time as I can't exercise so much as I did last time.
Thank you for your opinions and support
