Hi everyone! I'm so glad to find this forum, it looks so great and supportive.
A little history... I remember being concerned about my weight as far back as 6 years old. Six is way too young to worry about weight, but I didn't know that! I only got heavier and heavier as I got older. I'm 26 now, and have mostly been obese since 15. So I've been continuously trying to lose weight for almost as long as I can remember. Yikes!
Needless to say, it's been so frustrating for so long. Nothing I tried ever worked, even though there have been years when I exercised hours a day and ate absolutely no junk food or sodas. I always just assumed that low calorie was the way and that something had to be wrong with me if I couldn't lose weight that way. Of course I would eat too little, get ravenous, and rebound every single time. My weight always fluctuated seemingly with a mind of its own, but stayed too high.
I had always blown off the Atkins approach until a few weeks ago when I stumbled across a video by Gary Taubes where he explained exactly why low-carb makes sense. I FINALLY understood why my low calorie, high carb plans had never worked. After reading through most of Taubes' book Good Calories, Bad Calories, I was convinced. I started studying Atkins and finding the books. So here I am.
Like my title says, I'm just starting induction--I started on Monday, so today is my sixth day. I've lost an inch from my waist since then and just put on jeans that were too tight in January! For the first time in my life, I'm not having overwhelming sugar/carb cravings every waking minute and it's so nice to just eat when I'm hungry. I feel so much healthier now than when I've been on other diets. I'm very hopeful.
Thank you to all the people who posted their success stories and pictures on this forum. Seeing those stories erased the last of my doubts and finally convinced me to try. I can't wait to be a success story too.
I was 223 at Christmas, and I'm heading for somewhere around 160 (I'm 5'11"). About 60 pounds to go!
See y'all around,
Lily
