  • Ready to change my life!

I have started and stopped Atkins so many times that I have lost count. I tried for the first time in May 2008 while only losing about 23 pounds before getting pregnant. It took several attempts to lose the 23 pounds, but right when I decided to get serious about this WOE I found out I was pregnant. We had been trying for 18 months and after 1 successful week on induction I got the +pg. Not long after my son was born in March 2009 I decided once again to give it a shot and once again failed in my attempt. I attempted again the first of this year and once again failed.

I recently bought one of those fancy scales that tell you everything you want to know and possibly even more than I wanted to know. I thought it would be neat to know my body fat %, but boy was I wrong. After buying the scale and getting it all programmed I stepped on and after glaring down at the screen I felt sick....really sick. 64.9% BODY FAT that's probably enough to make most people sick. Sorry for the information, but I feel the first step is to admit a few things. I finally must admit that I am FAT and it is time to change.

Sad thing is I have never read the entire book....I have skimmed and read bits and pieces, but I feel this time in order to succeed I must read the book and stick with it. I am asking....begging even for advice or tips to help me stick with this and succeed once and for all. I am planning on getting ready this week, reading the book, going shopping and get prepped and then starting March 1.

My stats are 28 yr old female, 5'2" and 275 lbs with a final goal of 120
    280.2/270.0/120

Re: Ready to change my life!

I am one that knows in my heart this is the way to do it.. but have fallen prey to giving in to the wrong things myself.. I wasn't pregnant.. but during my cancer.. (thyroid).. I didn't even care what I ate....

so.. I think you've already taken the first step.. wanting to change.. and even if you're not 'really starting' until March 1.. you can go ahead and begin to wean yourself off the bad stuff... (unlike me who ate about a pound of chocolate with tears in my eyes.. the night before I started this again)

you'll get it right this time.. we both will
    2-15-10 194.8 - highest ever!
    2-20-10 190.4 - new scale
    3-20-10 177.8 - 1 month
    5-10-10 169.8 - 25 pounds gone!

Re: Ready to change my life!

Many of us start and stop for various reasons--I am one of them. I have lost half my weight and kept it off but I seem to seesaw up and down for the next 20 pounds. I just restarted again this past week, because I know this IS the way I need to eat. I feel a million times better on Atkins. DO read the 2002 DANDR cover to cover and make notes as you go as to where to find the lists and rules for quick reference later. There is no secret magic. Your success is in focusing on the process not the prize. Welcome to ADBB!

        HW (this time) 248
        GOAL ONE 228

        GOAL TWO 213 (personal goal)
        GOAL THREE 199 ONE-DERLAND
        FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Re: Ready to change my life!

Welcome back! I had a rough time too and failed the first time and on a couple attempts at restarting. This time, I'm back on track.

What I've learned is that a) you gotta read the ENTIRE book and follow it b) follow the advice here, get involved, ask questions, start a journal, help others, join challenges c) don't cheat d) use Fitday to track everything daily and e) do all the right things like exercise, water, finding your CCLL in OWL, avoiding known triggers and stallers, don't skip meals, don't use excuses to cheat or not eat right, and don't try and do Atkins "your way".

            Good luck!
